One of Daniel Farke’s signings last summer has is the subject of some surprise interest at Leeds United this time around, with reports claiming he is close to agreeing terms.

The likes of Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto, Illan Meslier and others were always going to attract attention. Gray has since left the club and joined Tottenham for a £40m fee, Joe Rodon arriving.

Kristoffer Klaesson, Charlie Cresswell and Marc Roca have joined Gray in being sold by Leeds, with Diego Llorente expected next. Those sales mean Leeds are under no pressure to sell any more of their players.

But one player has come in for some surprise interest after just one year at Elland Road, namely Finland midfielder Glen Kamara. Leeds bought the ball-playing ace for £5m less than a year ago from Rangers.

Nancy Froston shares Leeds stance on midfielder Glen Kamara

Indeed, Rennes want to take Kamara to Ligue 1 this summer. Reports originating in France claim that Kamara is close to agreeing personal terms with Rennes, with Rennes viewing Kamara as a priority.

Roma are closing in on a £20m deal to sign Rennes star Enzo Le Fee, leaving a gaping hole in the middle of the French side’s midfield. It also provides the Ligue 1 side with cash to spend on a replacement.

Speaking to One Leeds Fan channel, The Athletic’s Leeds correspondent Nancy Froston claims that the interest from Rennes is genuine but Leeds are completely against selling their “terrific” midfielder.

“The Rennes interest in Kamara is legitimate. They were interested in him last summer when he was leaving Rangers. I don’t think he is a player Leeds want to sell,” Froston said, when discussing Kamara.

“At this stage, they’re aware of the interest but they are quite keen to hold onto him. But there is always that caveat of how much is too much to ignore. But they are very keen to keep him a part of the picture.”

Leeds have got to keep Kamara simply due to depth in midfield

While the sale of Gray was needed due to financial reasons, the issue Leeds now have is a lack of depth in midfield. Ethan Ampadu has been playing in defence, that leaves just Kamara and Ilia Gruev as options.

Leeds in fact, need another body in the middle of the park or a centre-back that allows Ampadu to return to his natural position. Of course, Leeds also have Wales star Charlie Crew but he’s yet to make his debut.

Unless a crazy offer arrives for Kamara, one that might see Leeds double their initial £5m outlay on the Arsenal academy product, Leeds have got to avoid a sale this summer and keep the consistent midfielder.
