Mateo Joseph’s chances of returning to Elland Road have been assessed by the Spanish media, with Mallorca’s hopes of sealing a permanent deal for the forward revealed.
Leeds United allowed Mateo Joseph to leave in the summer, having fallen down the pecking order under head coach Daniel Farke.
After a slow start to life in La Liga, Joseph’s career with Mallorca burst into life with two goals as a substitute in a win over Sevilla.
Joseph’s performance earned him a nomination for a prestigious award alongside Real Madrid’s Arla Guler, winning rave reviews from the Spanish media.
Now, the chances of Joseph returning to Leeds at the end of the Premier League season have been assessed as he looks to make his mark in the Spanish top flight.

According to the Spanish publication Ultima Hora, Joseph is “unlikely” to return to Elland Road at the end of the current season, given the circumstances of his departure from Leeds.
While Mallorca are keen to retain the Spain Under-21 international, there is no obligation in place for Leeds to sell in the summer of 2026.
“Mallorca’s sporting directors tried to include a purchase option on Mateo Joseph, but it proved impossible,” the report states. “In fact, Real Betis also attempted to sign the Spain U21 international, but the lack of a future option meant the Betis players turned to other options for their forward line.
“Leeds United were seeking a simple loan or a transfer for a fee between €10 and €15 million, but Mallorca couldn’t possibly reach that amount.
“Mallorca, like Betis, tried unsuccessfully to include a purchase option, believing Joseph to be a striker who can thrive in the short to medium term. This is something Leeds also believe, and they rejected any additional option unless it was directly funded.”
Before adding: “Although Real Mallorca doesn’t have a purchase option, everything can be discussed in the summer. In fact, after a turbulent summer in England, it seems unlikely that Joseph will be able to resume his relationship with Leeds starting next season.”

With Mallorca looking to keep hold of Joseph thanks to his strong start to life at the club, he took his place in the starting line-up as his side took on Levante.
Joseph played the full 90 minutes in a front three as Mallorca secured a 1-1 draw, and the Leeds loanee played an important role in the result.

According to the stats from FotMob, Joseph was the most accurate passer of the ball of any player who played more than 45 minutes, making 24 accurate passes at a success rate of 96%.
However, he will be disappointed to have missed two big chances, hitting the target with a header and a right-footed shot, both of which were saved by the keeper.
