There have been some major moments during Leeds United’s transfer window this summer. Whether it be the decision to exclude Patrick Bamford from the first team, or any of the eight signings.

The pursuit of Igor Paixao which fell through at the final hurdle, the three-week wait Leeds fans had to endure before the addition of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. It has been a busy summer, full of different stories.

Another is the situation surrounding Mateo Joseph. The Spain U21 striker has left Leeds to go on loan to La Liga side Real Mallorca, a loan that does not include a permanent option – a decision made by Leeds.

It came after Daniel Farke claimed Joseph had informed him he wanted to leave. Farke subsequently said that Joseph did not want to travel to Germany. Now, Joseph shared his version of events this weekend.

Mateo Joseph breaks his silence on Leeds United exit

It will come as no surprise that Joseph has a different version of events. Rather than being painted as the naughty pupil, Joseph shares a tale that suggests he was given the same treatment as Patrick Bamford.

He told The Athletic: “It happened on the first day of pre-season, because he always told me he trusted me, but then, he (Farke) showed me he didn’t. This season, he told me that he wasn’t counting on me.

“Then I saw that there were quotes (saying) I didn’t want to go to Germany, that he couldn’t force me. That wasn’t the case. He told me that it was fine if I didn’t go. These situations are disappointing.

“I consider myself an honest person, I want that to be reflected when people talk about me. The most important thing is to have a clear conscience, and I have a very clear conscience that I gave it my all.”

Who is telling the truth – Daniel Farke? Or Mateo Joseph…

Leeds have shown their desire to keep Joseph, in sending him out on loan but excluding any possibility of a permanent clause. Unless their asking price was met, Leeds were against a permanent option in a loan.

That allows Leeds to benefit if Joseph has a good season in Spain. Leeds are believed to rate Joseph even if he only scored three goals last term. Joseph says Farke told him it was okay if he didn’t go to Germany.

But that shows Joseph didn’t want to go to Germany. Clearly, Joseph felt he deserved more game time and didn’t get it. Some would say ambitious, but most would say he has thrown his toys out of the pram.

Regardless of who is telling the truth, or which story is the correct version of events, Joseph only has one thing to focus on now and that is impressing with Mallorca, who finished 10th in La Liga last season.
