Leeds United have confirmed their seventh sale of the summer in the form of Crysencio Summerville to West Ham United, but there could be more departures before the deadline.
Summerville, 22, has signed a five-year deal at The London Stadium for a fee that is reportedly set to go north of £30m with add-ons. The Championship’s Player of the Season earned plenty of admiring glances.
He has chosen West Ham and joins Archie Gray, Glen Kamara, Marc Roca, Diego Llorente, Kris Klaesson and Charlie Cresswell in being sold by Leeds. The 49ers’ summer firesale has raked in a fee north of £75m.
But there could be more departures before the deadline. Ethan Ampadu’s old side Venezia have joined Parma and Genoa in the race to sign Willy Gnonto with reports from Italy claiming he is ‘unlikely’ to stay.
Brenden Aaronson subject of surprise overseas interest
Another, surprisingly, is Brenden Aaronson according to a report from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg on X. The USA star has returned to Leeds this summer after staging talks with manager Daniel Farke.
His return came as a surprise. Leeds were expected to sell all eight of Victor Orta’s loan army but in the end, four have left permanently, two on loan while Aaronson and Max Wober are back at Elland Road.
But Aaronson’s return has not stopped clubs taking a look at the £25m signing, despite his form in a Leeds shirt and then at Union Berlin. However, Plettenberg says Aaronson is focused on staying put.
“Aaronson has inquiries from abroad but likely to stay at Leeds. If nothing extraordinary happens, he won’t transfer in August. He’s very motivated to play a top season with Leeds to help getting promoted.”
Aaronon’s return at Leeds has just become absolutely crucial
Described as “tremendous” by Graeme Souness, Aaronson’s return gave Farke a bit of a headache at the start of the summer. The former Salzburg man is a £25m player after all, a place should be found for him.
But a natural no.10, Aaronson is not getting ahead of Georginio Rutter. He played on the left though, in Germany against both Hannover and Schalke and that might be where Farke sees Aaronson this term.
If that is the case, then it might be that Farke feels Leeds already have a replacement for Summerville. Right now, Aaronson’s return is growing in importance as others go. But, a new signing is still expected.
