Brenden Aaronson has shed some light on the conversation he had with Daniel Farke about returning to Leeds United.

It was reported earlier this week that after talks with Farke, Aaronson will be part of the Leeds squad next season pushing to be promoted back to the Premier League.

The 23-year-old was one of eight members of the 2022/23 first team squad to leave on last summer, something which certainly left a sour taste in the mouth of supporters.

He spent the season at Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin where he initially carried his struggles at Leeds into his loan spell, but did improve towards the end of the campaign.

However, it was confirmed by Union last month that he would not be returning to Germany at the end of his loan spell, leaving his future up in the air.

Aaronson shares detail of conversation with Leeds boss Farke

Aaronson is actually said to have had the option in his contract to leave on loan for a second successive season, but opted to waiver it.

He also turned down the opportunity to move back to Union in favour of giving it another go at Leeds, something which certainly should earn him some credit in the bank.

Returning to Leeds is clearly an option that has been in the back of his mind for a number of months, having admitted he felt as though he let the fans down with his performances.

That said, Farke had actually even considered bringing Aaronson back to Elland Road in January and so clearly he is one of the loanees he has been keeping an eye on in the last 12 months.

And now speaking for the first time since making his decision in an interview with the Athletic, Aaronson has shared details of exactly what Farke told him in the conversation which they had.

He said: “It was an awesome conversation. The role he sees me playing, the games he watched of me, how I fit into the team, and, importantly, the things I can get better at.”

Aaronson plays for USA for first time since Leeds decision

Aaronson is set to be part of the USMNT squad at the Copa America this summer and was in action last night for the first time since making his decision.

He was a second half substitute as USA picked up an impressive draw against one of the tournament’s favourites Brazil.

And the US media’s verdict on his display should certainly offer some encouragement about what he can offer next season, considering who he was up against.

He said: “Almost had a winner in the match but was denied by Alisson from close range. Just the kind of performance that you want coming off the bench.”
