Graeme Souness has told his Daily Mail column that there are “no surprises” that Leeds United star Brenden Aaronson was on the radar of some big clubs before his move to Elland Road – saying he has a “tremendous appetite”.
Aaronson, 22, was our second largest signing of the summer behind Luis Sinisterra in the summer. The first player to walk through the door at Elland Road, after Leeds survived relegation. He was strongly linked back in January.
But with Jesse Marsch in place, he moved to Yorkshire and has been first choice ever since. While he is lacking the numbers, his work rate and ability to press and create has not gone under the radar. Leeds fans love Aaronson.
Indeed, he even has his own song to the tune of Estelle’s American Boy. Souness gave his verdict on Leeds and singled out Aaronson for praise – saying it is of no surprise that the Leeds star was on the shortlist of numerous clubs.
“I like the American Brenden Aaronson and it is no surprise to me that he was on the radar of some major clubs. He is an athlete, a flair player with a tremendous appetite for work. He has a good chance of being successful in our game.”

What a player Aaronson has been so far. Yes, he lacks the numbers – just one goal and one assist in 13 games. But it is his ability to get Leeds up the pitch, his ability to attract numerous players around him, to aid the transition into attack.
If he begins to add the numbers, he will become a serious talent. But he has time on his side and at 22, he is already one of our most-important players. If Leeds can keep him for the next few seasons, then it will be a massive plus.
