Leeds United will move for ‘outstanding’ Premier League defender before August deadline on one condition

Daniel Farke has already told Leeds United supporters the three positions he wants to strengthen, but there could be others in the pipeline.

The Leeds boss earmarked full-back and central midfield as priorities almost three weeks ago, while a new winger is now also wanted after Crysencio Summerville’s exit.

Despite Farke‘s very clear public demand, progress has been slow, with it now 25 days since Leeds last made a signing, bringing in Jayden Bogle from Sheffield United.

However, in his press conference on Tuesday, Farke again reaffirmed there was no need to panic, as he remains confident they will get the right players through the door.

With two weeks left of the window, though, they are certainly cutting it fine, particularly if more players were to depart, which remains a distinct possibility.

Leeds could move for Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys

With Luis Sinisterra’s March move to Bournemouth included in the figures, only Aston Villa have raised more in player sales than Leeds across Europe this summer.

Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville have both been sold for big fees, but that does not necessarily mean there won’t be anymore before August 30.

And according to BBC Sport, Leeds have already put plans in place for if a central defender leaves in that timeframe.

They claim that Leeds are weighing up a move for Chelsea’s Bashir Humphreys in the event one does go, with the Blues open to letting him go.

Chelsea would actually prefer to sell Humphreys than loan him out for a third time, as it is now clear he does not feature as part of Enzo Maresca’s plans.

Given Farke’s comments about preferring permanent transfers over loans, that could well suit Leeds. Having said that, it will depend on Chelsea’s asking price, and the sort of budget they have to spend.

Max Wober could be one to makeway at Leeds

With Leeds interested in a potential late window move for the ‘outstanding‘ Humphreys, it is quite clear there is still a chance Max Wober leaves.

Farke has insisted Wober wants to be at Leeds for the upcoming season, but it is hard to see him settling for second choice behind Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon, neither of which will be going anywhere.

Borussia Monchengladbach director Roland Virkus has already hinted they could still make another move for Wober, who spent last season on loan there.

It is certainly going to be interesting to see how this one plays out with Wober not just because of Farke’s comments, but also the fact Leeds look like they could be planning without him.
