Leeds United are already being linked with a number of new signings ahead of the January transfer window, and one of those is also attracting interest from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United.
In January 2024, Leeds made just one signing in the form of a loan deal for Connor Roberts. The Wales star made little impact at Elland Road even if he did score in a 3-1 win over Leicester, before leaving.
But more importantly, Leeds failed to address a lack of cover at centre-back or bolstering their options in the final third. Leeds fans and Daniel Farke will be hoping Leeds have learnt from that this time around.
Carlton Palmer issues verdict on Leeds interest in Daniel Svensson
Leeds are among the clubs keen on signing Nordsjaelland’s Daniel Svensson. The 22-year-old Sweden star has caught the eye after already clocking up more than 150 appearances for the Norwegian outfit.
Mostly operating at left-back, Svensson has had a hand in 28 goals in 152 games for Nordsjaelland and that form has attracted Leeds, as well as the likes of giant trio Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United.
Former Leeds star Carlton Palmer has told FLW that Svensson may not want to leave unless regular game time can be guaranteed, something he may struggle with at the big trio – but not as much, with Leeds.
“An ambitious swoop for Leeds if, in fact, they do go ahead with it. He can operate at left-back or central-midfield. He’s seen his stock rise of late. Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in him.
“When you look at those clubs it’s great they’re interested, you won’t want to leave where you’re playing, he’s been playing regularly where he’s played. You want to move somewhere where you’re going to play.”
Leeds surely the perfect move for Daniel Svensson, but January?
As Palmer says, Svensson needs a club where he is going to play. The chances are that Svensson would play for Leeds with Junior Firpo out of contract in June, and Isaac Schmidt yet to win Farke’s trust.
Indeed, full-back is an area of the Leeds squad that will require surgery at the end of the season. Firpo is not the only full-back out of contract, with Sam Byram only penning a new one-year deal last summer.
Svensson would get game time but given his form and the size of clubs interested, he may feel he is worthy of Premier League football. January is unlikely, but a summer move if Leeds go up makes sense.
