49ers ready to green light Leeds United player exit at a £6million discount

Daniel Farke insisted on a small squad at Leeds United if he was to get The Whites promoted and while that has its problems when injury strikes, it seems to be the right call.

It keeps everyone on the same page, striving for the same thing. A family feel is evident at the club, with players not able to play but still celebrating when Leeds score – just look at Monday’s win at Bramall Lane.

With 12 games to go however, the starting XI is going to pick itself. The defence will remain the same if Ethan Ampadu is unable to come in – Illan Meslier, Jayden Bogle, Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk, Junior Firpo.

The front four, too. Joel Piroe scored his 15th on Monday, one more than last season’s tally and it is clear both Dan James and Manor Solomon will start out wide. It means those not playing, will remain as subs.

Relationship between Daniel Farke and Max Wober remains tense

Max Wober has been afforded just six league appearances and while injury has played a part in that, the defender has also been left as an unused sub on 13 occasions during Leeds’ 34 Championship fixtures.

According to Austrian reporter Peter Linden, Farke has not forgotten Wober’s decision to play for his old side Gladbach on loan last season rather than Leeds and the relationship betweens the two is still ‘tense’.

Farke has kept the squad small, but there is always going to be a disappointed player here or there. With Wober and Farke it is long-standing, and the summer looks set to see Wober finally leave permanently.

How much Leeds are willing to sell Max Wober for in summer

Linden continues in his report that Wober is fully aware he needs to move in order to establish himself in Ralf Rangnick’s Austria 2026 World Cup squad. Wober left Leeds for Gladbach to play at Euro 2024.

Indeed, Leeds wanted a fee of £12.5m in the summer but now it is claimed that he has a ‘market value’ of just £6.5m. All signs are pointing towards a summer exit for Wober even if he is on a ‘lucrative’ contract.

Leeds need defenders that can play, ones that are more readily-available and Wober needs a club where he can go and play, first choice. Farke’s small squad tactic has worked, but Wober is the odd one out.
