Darren Bent says whether Leeds United are better than the Premier League’s bottom three

Promotion now looks an inevitability for Leeds United after comeback wins against Sunderland and Sheffield United, with Daniel Farke’s side five points clear of Chris Wilder’s Blades.

Seven points separate Daniel Farke’s relentless Leeds from third-placed Burnley, with 12 games left to play. Not only that, but The Whites are unbeaten in 16 games and look unlikely to drop games soon.

There is still a long way to go with 36 points still to play for. But nine of the remaining 12 opponents are in the bottom half of the table and at this stage, it would take a massive fall off for Leeds not to go up.

Indeed, Ally McCoist thinks Leeds are promoted and Troy Deeney thinks in four months’ time that Leeds will be confirmed as promoted. But how would Leeds fare in the Premier League under manager Farke?

Darren Bent discusses Leeds United’s chances of survival

Farke hardly has the best record in the Premier League. Relegation in his one full season in England’s top tier with Norwich, and sacked after three months in his second campaign with the Canaries back in 2021.

But Leeds have players of Premier League experience and with the right additions in the summer, will put up a fight. Darren Bent was asked if he thinks Leeds are better than the Premier League’s bottom three.

“They were brilliant when they come up with Bielsa. Farke has come up with Norwich before and off they went. What Leeds are doing now? Time will tell. Big side, they’ll attract the players,” Bent told TalkSPORT.

Bent was then asked if Leeds are a better team than the bottom three: “Two of the bottom three,” Bent said with a smirk, given he has loyalties to former club Ipswich Town who currently sit in 18th position.

Leeds United’s chance of survival is concerning next season

This is of course, if Leeds do get promoted. There is still an incredibly long way to go, with more than a quarter of the campaign still to play. But Bent thinks Leeds would have to “fall off a cliff” not to go up.

The three teams promoted ahead of Leeds last season currently sit in the bottom three, in Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich. A Leicester side that dominated the Championship under Enzo Maresca last term.

An Ipswich side that starred under Kieran McKenna and a Southampton outfit that beat Leeds to the play-off final. But promotion is the first aim and Leeds will take it from there, with the summer set to be key.
