Leeds United now looking at loan deal for Chelsea player who Enzo Maresca called ‘fantastic’ last season

Leeds United could be about to raid their new Premier League rivals Chelsea for a striker signing this summer, as Daniel Farke looks set to turn his attentions to the attack.

This summer, Leeds United have signed one striker in Lukas Nmecha, who joined on a free transfer from Wolfsburg.

Although it’s a useful signing, it’s not one that has really got the fans excited, and it looks unlikely that Nmecha will score the goals that keep Leeds United in the Premier League next season.

For Daniel Farke, more quality is needed up top, along with extra depth given the uncertainty over Mateo Joseph’s Leeds United future, and the uncertainty hanging over Patrick Bamford too.

There have been several strikers linked with a move to Leeds United this summer. One new name to add to the list is Chelsea’s Marc Guiu.

Leeds United are looking at signing Marc Guiu from Chelsea

If the name sounds familiar it’s because Leeds United were linked with Guiu during the winter transfer window. Leeds were looking at a loan deal for the 19-year-old Spaniard who came through the ranks at Barcelona before arriving at Chelsea last year.

And speaking to Leeds United News, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has revealed how Guiu remains on Leeds’ transfer radar for this summer’s transfer window, and how the Whites could finally sign Guiu on loan this summer.

Bailey explained: “I think a loan signing is possible. Marc Guiu at Chelsea is one they’ve looked at as well. They will be doing a few bits. It’s still the middle of July and they’re not panicking.”

Marc Guiu’s stats for Chelsea in 2024/25, Enzo Maresca has high hopes

A former Spanish U17 and U19 striker, Guiu made three La Liga appearances for Barcelona in the 2023/24 season, scoring once before leaving for Chelsea where last season he made three Premier League appearances, failing to score.

But in the Conference League, he really shone. Guiu scored six goals in nine games as Chelsea went on to win the tournament, and needless to say manager Enzo Maresca speaks highly of the youngster.

Maresca said of Guiu last season: “Marc is improving a lot, to be honest. He is doing fantastic. Day after day he is more ready for that kind of game.”

Joel Piroe won the Golden Boot last season, scoring 19 times in the Championship. But he split opinion at times and many might have reservations about the Dutchman’s ability in the Premier League, so signing someone like Guiu, who albeit lacks Premier League experience, but likely has the quality, could be a shrewd move from Farke this summer.

Expect another marquee signing up top though with Farke surely wanting a striker he can rely on in the longer-term.
