Leeds will have to spend wisely in the transfer market this winter.
Leeds United News understand the 49ers do have some money to spend in January, although financial restrictions are at large with the club close to breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) after spending roughly £100m in the summer.
Should Leeds follow Nottingham Forest’s path and risk a points deduction? 💸
Opportunities will pop up – like the potential £9m deal for Ruben Vargas – but a move for Haji Wright now looks well and truly off the table for Leeds after a story from the Telegraph emerged.
Leeds United find out Haji Wright will cost £200m after Coventry respond to West Ham enquiry
West Ham are desperately searching for a striker to aid their hopes of Premier League survival.
Who do you want Leeds to sign in January? A striker surely has to be the priority!
The Hammers are targeting Jorgen Strand Larsen of Wolves, but as they aim not to put all of their eggs into one basket, enquiries are being made for other attackers.
The aforementioned Wright – who Leeds are monitoring – is one of the options being considered, but the Telegraph believe Coventry bluntly quoted West Ham a whopping £200m when they received an enquiry from the east Londoners.
That would make the United States international the most expensive footballer in history, tied with Neymar – who moved from Barcelona to PSG for £200m in August 2017.
Leeds obviously weren’t the ones who asked, but Coventry are clearly quite determined to keep Wright around, so the 49ers can expect the same response should they too ask the Robins if a deal is possible.
Frank Lampard currently has Coventry sitting six points clear at the top of the Championship, so it would require something special for the leaders of the second tier to voluntarily weaken their side.
What the West Ham United Fan Advisory Board said about Leeds United
Daniel Farke is clearly doing something right at Leeds, as the West Ham United Fan Advisory Board expressed a tinge of jealousy when providing a statement on a vote of no confidence against their owners.
Six points clear of the bottom three – Leeds can start to relax… can’t they? 😤
The statement reads: “To be overtaken by two newly promoted clubs [Sunderland and Leeds United] plus a number of other organically far smaller outfits is a direct reflection of the leadership.”
With six points currently separating Leeds from the bottom three and also West Ham, the Hammers are certainly in real danger of being cut adrift.
