Leeds United now battling Nottingham Forest to sign defender from Bundesliga club, they want to keep him

Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing a top young defensive talent from Bundesliga side Freiburg.

It is said both Leeds and Nottingham Forest are keeping an eye on his situation with Freiburg determined to retain his services and make him a big part of their future.

Leeds remain in the market for defensive reinforcements and Daniel Farke has already spoken publicly about the need to bring in another full-back.

Depending on what sort of role James Debayo could play this season, another central defender may also be a useful addition at Elland Road.

Charlie Cresswell and Liam Cooper have both left, leaving Max Wober as the only senior backup to Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon.

Leeds interested in Freiburg’s Bruno Ogbus

Debayo had not had any sort of taste of senior football until his appearances during pre-season, and so a loan move may well be what his development needs.

However, that would leave Leeds without any sort of backup to Rodon as a natural right-sided defender without having to move Ethan Ampadu out of central midfielder.

But according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Dennis Bayer, Leeds are in the market for another centre-back, with Freiburg’s Bruno Ogbus on the radar.

He wrote: “Update: #Leeds and #Nottingham are also monitoring the development of Bruno Ogbus. Freiburg wants to keep the defender in any case.”

Alongside Nottingham Forest, Leeds are reportedly monitoring the situation of Ogbus this summer, though Freiburg are determined to keep him.

AC Milan have already seen an £860k offer turned down by the German side, who made it clear they have no interest in opening talks over a deal.

However, Leeds have now entered the race for the 18-year-old and so it will be interesting to see if they join AC Milan in testing their resolve.

Who is Leeds target Bruno Ogbus?

Ogbus has not yet made a senior appearance for Freiburg but has been progressing through the ranks of their other sides.

Having joined from Zurich two years ago, Ogbus has played for both Freiburg’s U19s and second team, but they view him as someone who could step into the first team.

Ogbus has been capped at three different levels at youth level by Switzerland and is right-footed, making him a potential understudy for Rodon.
