Leeds United now battling another RedBull club to sign Junior Firpo replacement for a bargain £5m

The priorities for Leeds United in the last couple of weeks in the January transfer window will be a striker and a centre-back, but Leeds will be keeping an eye out for possible Junior Firpo replacements.

With Ethan Ampadu playing at centre-back as Pascal Struijk remains injured and Max Wober struggles to overcome a knee issue, a new centre-back is ideal. Up top, Leeds could also do with another striker.

Daniel Farke confirms Patrick Bamford has suffered a setback, while Joe Gelhardt has gone on loan to Hull City with Gelhardt scoring on his Hull debut. Those will be the priorities for Leeds ahead of February 3.

But long-term, Leeds need a replacement for Junior Firpo. The left-back is out of contract at the end of the season, and even with promotion the former Barcelona man may decide not to sign a new contract.

Leeds linked with Daniel Svensson again but so are Leipzig

Ahead of the January transfer window, Leeds were linked with Sweden international Daniel Svensson. The left-back, who can also play in midfield, is currently playing his trade with Norwegian side Nordsjaelland.

It was claimed that the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United are also looking at Svensson. Now, Sky Germany reporter Philipp Hinze says Leeds and Leipzig want Svensson, with £5m-£6m needed.

“Exclusive: Daniel Svensson is on the list of Leipzig. Initial loose talks have taken place. Fits the LV profile. Not hot yet. Realistic price: €6-7million . Leeds is also interested in the player,” Hinze reported on X.

What Carlton Palmer said about Daniel Svensson and Leeds

Svensson is a real talent, aged just 22. A player that has already surpassed Championship football and is likely to only be a target for Leeds should they manage to gain promotion to the Premier League.

That is mirrored in the level of interest Svensson is attracting. However, Carlton Palmer believes Svensson may prefer a move to Leeds over some of the big clubs interested in him, newly Redbull club Leipzig.

Affordable, it doesn’t look likely Svensson will be on the move in the next fortnight especially with Firpo expected to remain at Elland Road until the summer. But in June, Svensson would be a top replacement.
