Leeds United ‘monitoring’ international midfielder ahead of potential January swoop

Leeds United’s rumour mill is beginning to ramp up as the January transfer window moves ever closer to opening.

The Whites still have six matches between now and the window getting underway but it is already pretty clear they will be in an automatic promotion that goes right to the wire.

This time 12 months ago, Leeds were in a similar position but opted against a busy January. That ultimately proved costly, as Ipswich Town pipped them to second place after a host of winter signings.

Daniel Farke has suggested Leeds’ January will be quiet but links both in and out of the club are beginning to hit the press.

Perhaps the strongest so far is reports linking Max Wober with a return to Red Bull Salzburg, which could see Leeds make use of their partnership with the global energy drinks brand and seek a player in return.

Leeds ‘monitoring’ Israel international Mahmoud Jaber

In terms of incomings, Leeds have approached Maccabi Tel Aviv over a potential deal for striker Dor Turgeman after watching him in action this season.

Turgeman could become the second Israel international in Farke’s squad with Manor Solomon currently on loan from Tottenham and beginning to find form.

However, Turgeman may not be only one of Solomon’s international teammates moving to Elland Road next month as 5Sport report Leeds are ‘monitoring’ Maccabi Haifa midfielder Mahmoud Jaber.

Unlike with Turgeman, Leeds have not yet made contact over a deal but the Whites are keeping an eye on his situation ahead of January.

If this was to get done, it would be a strange piece of business by Leeds considering they are extremely well stocked for midfielders.

Ethan Ampadu is not too far away from returning, while Ao Tanaka, Joe Rothwell and Josuhua Guilavogui are all regulars under Farke right now. Ilia Gruev will be another option when he returns.

Who is reported Leeds target Mahmoud Jaber?

The only type of midfielder Leeds should be looking at signing in January is an attacking one to provide cover and competition for Brenden Aaronson.

However, Jaber could not be any more different to that as he is very much of the defensive kind and has been all his career.

Jaber is now 25 and has been capped on 10 occasions at senior international level by Israel, having made over 100 appearances for Maccabi Haifa.

In that time he has scored four goals and provided 11 assists, winning the Israeli league title and Israeli Super Cup twice apiece. He doesn’t really look like what Leeds need.
