Leeds United are yet to make any serious moves in the January transfer window even if the previous winter window should have acted as a lesson for Daniel Farke and the club.

Charlie Crew completed his loan move to Doncaster Rovers on Monday and Joe Gelhardt is expected to join the Wales international in going on loan today, with Hull City set to be the beneficiaries of Gelhardt.

But in terms of activity at Elland Road, that seems to be it at the moment. A few other Leeds players are generating interest, with Blackburn manager John Eustace confirming he would like Patrick Bamford.

Last January, Leeds only signed Connor Roberts on loan while Ipswich made a number of new additions including Kieffer Moore and that played a big part in Kieran McKenna’s side achieving second place.

Leeds United table new bid to sign midfielder Dje D’avilla

However, if reports from Portugal are to be believed then that could be about to change. Sport TV reporter Sebastiao Sousa Pinto reports that Leeds have tabled an offer for Union de Leiria’s Dje D’avilla.

The reporter says that there could be a few issues with a work permit for the Ivory Coast midfielder, who is yet to win a National Team cap. Numerous clubs are interested in the 21-year-old player this month.

It is understood that Union de Leiria want a figure of £3.4m for D’avilla and it appears that is what Leeds are willing to pay. The same fee that Leeds spent on Ao Tanaka from Fortuna Dusseldorf. He said on X:

“Leeds United have made an offer to sign Djé D’avilla, in the region of 4M € – objectives included. A transfer to England is considered difficult due to the work permit. Several clubs have shown interest in signing the midfielder. 4M € is the amount requested by the Union of Leiria.”

A bargain and arguably, the best signing of Daniel Farke’s era which has also included Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev, Sam Byram, Jaydem Bogle and Joel Piroe. Leeds are looking to do another Tanaka.

Contrasting reports from different sources as YEP deliver update

So, sources in Portugal are saying that Leeds have made a move to land the Union de Leiria star after an eye-catching campaign in Portugal’s second tier. But, the Evening Post say Leeds sources say different.

Always likely to be the case given the Evening Post’s sources are Leeds-based, and the club have tried to keep transfer activity as quiet as possible. Joe Rothwell’s arrival in the summer slipped under the radar.

The YEP say that reports from Portugal regarding a bid for D’avilla are wide of the mark. Time will tell, but Daniel Farke has often been linked with players from the second tier of European countries, like Tanaka.
