Leeds United are open to selling ‘crucial’ Elland Road player in January but are yet to receive any bids

The second half of the Championship season is set to begin for Leeds United with Sunday’s clash against Sheffield Wednesday the start of the last 20 fixtures, after a fortnight off.

Of course, Leeds were in action against Harrogate Town in the FA Cup but that was played almost as if it was a mid-season friendly. Everyone knows the aim is promotion and nothing else will do this season.

The pressure is back on then, against Danny Rohl’s impressive Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday at Elland Road. Leeds are now unbeaten in nine, but their last two league games saw the Whites surrender leads.

Illan Meslier has been criticised wholly, with the Frenchman arguably at fault for all four goals conceded against Hull and Blackburn in the last two games. Yet, Daniel Farke has leapt to Meslier’s defence of late.

Leeds are yet to receive any offers for ‘crucial’ Illan Meslier

It is not long after Meslier had put together a decent string of performances, with Farke describing Meslier as “crucial” after the win at Stoke. Now, the narrative has changed, even if he starts on Sunday.

Leeds are open to selling Meslier, even if Jon Newsome has warned Leeds that selling Meslier now means they won’t get the full price tag. But even if Leeds are open to offers, The Whites are yet to receive any.

That is according to The Mail, who say Leeds are not only without offers for Meslier, but no other club has enquired. Rennes decided to sign Brice Samba from Lens, arguably Meslier’s best chance of leaving Leeds.

What Leeds staff feel about Daniel Farke defence of Meslier

Ahead of the press conference prior to the 1-0 win over Harrogate, not many would have predicted Farke to defend Meslier – but indeed, defend him in the way he did with such an impassioned plea in the media.

Joe Rodon, Joe Rothwell and Joel Piroe were all visibly frustrated when Meslier dropped the ball at the feet of Joao Pedro for Hull’s second, in their comeback 3-3 draw. But, Leeds staff are impressed by Farke.

Many feel Farke’s big speech is ‘canny’ management and could hand Meslier some confidence. But nothing will do that unlike a clean sheet against Wednesday, and a big performance from the stopper.
