Leeds United’s preparations for the January window are underway, and one player they could sign is Malian midfielder Issouf Sissokho, with talks between the parties progressing.

Following the summer’s deadline, managing director Robbie Evans said that the club’s £100m+ splurge following promotion had seen Leeds max out their PSR position. Evans said the plan was to avoid January.

However, reports say Leeds are planning to make signings in the winter window. That means Leeds may have to sell to make room and avoid crossing the PSR line either in January, or before the PSR deadline.

It could mean Leeds make an early sale in the summer, before June 30. Serie A duo Lorenzo Pellegrini and Piotr Zielinski are linked. LeedsUnited.News understands Bodo/Glimt’s Jens Petter Hauge is a target.

Leeds are in talks to sign Issouf Sissokho from Maccabi Tel Aviv

A left-field report from Africa Foot has emerged on Monday, and it claims that Leeds are in talks to sign Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Mali international Issouf Sissokho. A holding midfielder who started at Bordeaux.

The 23-year-old left Bordeaux after 65 senior appearances, some of which were in Ligue 1, to join Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2024. He has since played north of 50 games, including Europa League games.

Sissokho has also played in Champions League qualifying and has a Malian cap. The report says that Leeds have held talks, and it is progressing nicely ahead of a possible move to land Sissokho in January.

Leeds are battling Robbie Keane for Sissokho’s signature

The report says that Leeds are preparing a bid, though the amount is unclear. Leeds are not alone in their pursuit of Sissokho, with Africa Foot reporting that Robbie Keane’s Ferencvaros are interested in Sissokho.

Keane has made a wonderful foray into management since leaving Leeds in the summer of 2023, having worked at Elland Road as Sam Allardyce’s assistant during a four-game stint. Firstly, with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Now, with Ferencvaros. Keane had left Maccabi Tel Aviv a couple of months before Sissokho signed on with the Israeli side. But he is looking to raid his old side for Sissokho, but Leeds are winning the race.
