Leeds United were relegated at the end of the 2022-23 season, and for Sam Allardyce, it spelled the end of his Elland Road stint. Big Sam had come in on an interim basis, for just four matches.

Allardyce managed to pick up one point from those four matches, but it was always an inevitability that Leeds would be relegated at the end of that season. Leeds were fighting a losing battle that season.

Neither new Watford manager Javi Gracia, Michael Skubala, nor Allardyce could rectify the mess Jesse Marsch left behind. Daniel Farke replaced Allardyce as Leeds manager and is now rectifying relegation.

Promotion after a 100-point season, back in the Premier League, and looking steady, Leeds are putting up a fight at this early stage to avoid the drop. Allardyce was not the only one to leave at the end of 22-23.

Robbie Keane’s incredible form as manager of Ferencvaros

Keane had returned to Elland Road as Allardyce’s assistant for the four matches, but the Irishman left at the same time as Big Sam. He has since embarked on his own managerial career, initially in Israel.

The Ireland icon joined Maccabi Tel Aviv, winning an incredible 41 of 56 matches in charge, winning the Israeli Premier League. He joined Hungarian giants Ferencvaros in January 2025, managing 42 games.

In that time, Keane has guided his side to the league title in Hungary and successfully navigated his side into the Europa League group stages with an incredible win ratio of 59.5%, winning 25 of his games.

Keane not the only former Leeds man impressing as manager

Indeed, Carlos Corberan is doing a sensational job over in Spain with La Liga giants Valencia. Having worked on a shoestring at West Brom but delivered play-off football, Corberan made the move to Spain.

Now in charge of Largie Ramazani, Corberan saved Valencia from the threat of relegation last season and is quickly re-establishing mid-table obscurity back at the Mestalla. Pablo Hernandez is starring, too.

He has taken on a caretaker role at his beloved Castellon, Hernandez winning all three of his matches in charge after his side made a dismal start to 25-26. When Farke eventually leaves, all three may be options.
