Junior Firpo’s future at Leeds United remains in doubt with the left-back still out of contract at the end of the season, even if Leeds have confirmed they are in talks over a new deal for Firpo.

Firpo was sensational for Leeds last season, having a hand in 14 goals as Daniel Farke’s men won the title. He scored four goals and laid on 10 assists as Leeds returned to the Premier League after two years.

But Firpo remains out of contract this summer. Leeds confirmed in their retained list that The Whites are in talks to extend both Firpo and Sam Byram’s contract – but Firpo has considerable interest in him.

Barcelona have been touted with a move for Firpo, while Milan are also being linked. It has even been claimed that another of Firpo’s old sides Betis are close to a deal. Now, Firpo has added fuel to the fire.

Junior Firpo spotted on Real Betis pitch after Valencia draw

Betis finished their league campaign with a 1-1 draw against Carlos Corberan’s Valencia, finishing the La Liga campaign in an impressive sixth place and qualifying for the Europa League ahead of 2025-26.

Firpo’s old side have not finished for the season however, as they face Chelsea in the Europa Conference League final. Following Friday’s 1-1 draw, Firpo was spotted on the Betis pitch as per Diario de Sevilla.

With Firpo linked with a return to Betis, it is certainly telling that he was in attendance at Betis and even invited onto the pitch of his old side. Betis currently have Marc Roca and Diego Llorente in their squad.

Firpo not the only Leeds player that could join Real Betis

Back in January, Real Betis made a bid for Leeds striker Mateo Joseph. But the Spain U21 remained at Leeds with the Whites rejecting the £10m offer. Now, Betis could make a second move to land Joseph.

Indeed, reports say Betis plan to make an offer for Joseph after the Conference League final this week, with Betis facing Chelsea on Wednesday night. Leeds have set an asking price of £12.75m for Joseph.

So, Betis could start next season with Roca, Llorente, Firpo and Joseph – a quartet of former Leeds stars. There will be outgoings at Leeds this summer in order to make room for an expected influx of talent.
