Journalist thinks international would love to sign for Leeds – and could go for modest fee

Journalist Graham Smyth believes that one player would probably jump at the chance to sign for Leeds United this summer, and suggested that there may be the opportunity for him to be available for a modest fee.

Leeds have, perhaps unsurprisingly, been more involved in moving players on in the early stages of the window, with Archie Gray the most significant departure so far. Kristoffer Klaesson may well be the next name out of the Elland Road door.

Whites fans will hope that the focus soon switches to further incomings, with Joe Rodon‘s loan deal from Tottenham now a permanent move. And one of the priority positions is surely going to be the right-back spot.

Gray spent most of last season in that position, while Sam Byram can obviously play there. But Byram has had injury issues, and Leeds signed both Djed Spence and Connor Roberts on loan during the previous campaign.

Connor Roberts may jump at chance to make Leeds return

Spence’s loan really did not work out, while Roberts showed glimpses without ever making himself a key man for Daniel Farke‘s side. Meanwhile, it is fairly hard to see Rasmus Kristensen playing for Leeds again.

There have been suggestions that Leeds want to bring Roberts back this summer. And when asked about the prospect of the 28-year-old coming back, Graham Smyth wrote on X that he does not believe that the Welshman would have any reservations about returning…

A no-brainer if Burnley are open to low fee

Some may be divided about the prospect of Roberts coming back. He was not able to force his way into the starting lineup on a regular basis during the second-half of the season.

However, he was clearly a popular member of the squad, with Leeds boasting a strong contingent of Welsh players. And there were moments when Roberts appeared to take a leadership role as the promotion race approached the finishing line.

If Burnley are open to letting Roberts leave on the cheap, then it perhaps becomes something of a no-brainer for Leeds to make a move.
