‘I’m told’… Leeds United sources claim there is one obstacle stopping Alex Moreno joining from Aston Villa

With Junior Firpo’s likely exit from Leeds United this summer, Daniel Farke will need the perfect replacement.

This is where Aston Villa’s Alex Moreno comes in, as the Spaniard is firmly on the 49ers’ radar.

Leeds have had talks with Moreno, with the 32-year-old looking destined to leave Villa Park following a loan spell with Nottingham Forest last season.

He showed plenty of signs that he can still continue in the Premier League next season, helping his loan side gain European football.

It has been made clear that Paraag Marathe wants to emulate Forest, and whether Moreno’s signing is the first step in doing that is another question, but for now, there’s a problem for Leeds.

A left-back will be the point of focus as soon as the defensive area becomes vacant, and that’s looking likely with Firpo surely going to Real Betis.

Moreno can fill that void, and the deal isn’t looking like a major issue in terms of Leeds’ £100m transfer budget with the Spaniard at an asking price of £5m.

Time will tell over the coming weeks if this will become an urgent matter, but if it does, Leeds have an obstacle to overcome.

Speaking to LeedsUnited.News, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has brought something to the surface which could prove to be a hurdle in the Whites’ pursuit of landing Moreno.

“I’d be surprised, he isn’t on small money,” Bailey on Moreno.

“I’d be surprised, but Leeds are getting offered so many players, I’m told.

“More than most clubs. It’s very hard to see the wood from the trees.”

What Villa boss Unai Emery has said about Leeds target Moreno

With Farke priding himself on attacking full-backs last season, he’ll need to find the ideal left-sided player to suit Jayden Bogle.

This is definitely a major strength within Farke’s plans, as Leeds’ full-backs last season weren’t only brilliant defensively but also had a hand in the contribution of 24 league goals.

But thankfully for Leeds, Unai Emery said Moreno’s ‘aggressive’ in attack, and his short stint with Villa showed that to a tee.

This brings plenty more reasons why Moreno needs to make a move to Elland Road, and although wages could prove to be a problem, he could be the perfect solution to Firpo’s absence.
