It looks certain that Gabriel Gudmundsson will be the next arrival at Elland Road this summer.
The Lille left-back is looking likely to be the replacement for the recently departed Junior Firpo as the 49ers’ master plan at Leeds United is coming together.
Leeds will beat Fenerbahce to Gudmundsson, as Jose Mourinho being a fan should highlight the Swede’s quality.
The 26-year-old also ticks the box for what the 49ers are looking for in terms of an age bracket after their first three signings.
Everything looks positive in this deal, with Leeds fans happy, but Lille fans are most certainly not.

Lille fans fuming at Gabriel Gudmundsson’s Leeds United transfer
The French side won’t be happy to see their starting left-back jumping ship.
It might come as more of a shock after Lille secured Europa League for next season, as Leeds’ Premier League pull is more dominant than ever, but Gudmundsson is clearly worthy of a place in England’s elite.
Gudmundsson’s Leeds deal is close, with the Swedish international almost putting pen to paper with an announcement due very soon.
But Lille fans are not happy with Gudmundsson leaving for £8.6m, as the fanbase have come out on X with ferocity regarding the decision.
@noemie_lmrr said: “No!!! I refuse.”
@ThouaryA demanded more, saying: “15m minimum.”
@_wilhelm_scream was in disbelief at how cheap Gudmundsson’s deal is: “Leeds has pocketed £150m thanks to their promotion to the PL, and LOSC is letting them have Gudmundsson for £8.6m… What a steal.
“It’s a pity, he’s worth more,” @jmlelillois said.
@CharlieNiGui wasn’t happy, saying: “I’m disappointed to see him go because I love this player, his character, and his commitment on the field… Wishing him all the best!”
@ArkhanArtic thinks Leeds have done very well, saying: “Good player. But never really took off. I love him. But it might be the right time for him to leave. For £8.6m… it’s almost a bargain in my opinion.”

Leeds are managing their finances well this window
Even though the Whites are on the verge of securing their fourth signing of the summer already, the 49ers are working effectively.
This is due to Leeds hardly taking much out of the possible £150m available to the Whites, with some very well-constructed deals coming to fruition.
| Leeds’ confirmed/almost confirmed signings | |
| Lukas Nmecha | Free transfer |
| Jaka Bijol | £15m |
| Sebastiaan Bornauw | £5.1m |
| Gabriel Gudmunsson | £8.6m |
| Total spent | £28.7m |
The theme of this is expected to continue, as the fifth signing on their radar could be Anton Stach, as Stach could join Leeds for £17m, which would be their most expensive, but once again keeps below the £20m mark.
£30m was expected on ‘priority’ positions as the best could be yet to come for Leeds.
