Jack Clarke has emerged as a target for Leeds United in the final days of the transfer window and a new report has detailed how much could tempt Sunderand into a sale of the winger.

Leeds are set to confirm the sale of Georginio Rutter to Brighton for a fee of £40m after Daniel Farke confirmed last week that the Frenchman was set for The Seagulls, and had said his Leeds goodbyes.

He joins seven other players in leaving Leeds this summer, with Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville also leaving for big transfer fees. Gray is said to have set Tottenham back for a whopping £40m figure.

Then, Summerville joined West Ham for £25m. Glen Kamara, Charlie Cresswell and plenty of others have left the club on a permanent basis and it has seen Leeds left with plenty to spend, but plenty of holes.

Crysencio Summerville replacement a priority as Clarke eyed

With Summerville gone, Leeds lack a quality left winger. Losing The Championship’s Player of the Season is always going to be difficult but bringing in 23-year-old Clarke would go some way to appeasing fans.

Leeds are said to be ‘aware’ of Clarke and Leeds fans were impressed with Clarke’s display for Sunderland on Sunday, against Sheffield Wednesday. The winger got an assist in an excellent 4-0 Black Cats win.

Now, the Yorkshire Evening Post dissect Leeds’ interest in Clarke. They say Sunderland are keen to keep the winger, but if offers of £20m arrive then it could turn their head with 11 days left to go in the window.

But there is a problem with Leeds’ pursuit of Sunderland’s Clarke

The issue, is that Leeds are some way down the queue in the bid to sign Clarke after he had a hand in 19 goals for Sunderland last season. Indeed, Clarke scored 15 goals himself and laid on a further four assists.

Now with 51 goals and assists in 114 games for Sunderland, Clarke is regarded as one of the best wingers outside of the Premier League. But the YEP report that that has attracted Premier League interest in him.

Leeds could become a favourable option for Clarke towards the end of the window if a bid from a Premier League club does not arrive. But until then, Leeds may have to be as patient as possible to sign Clarke.
