How much Leeds United are asking for Max Wober with The 49ers expected to sell him

Leeds United are expected to be incredibly busy in the transfer market this summer. But if Leeds are to be busy bringing a team of new players, then plenty will also have to leave.

Daniel Farke needs improvements in a new goalkeeper, cover at centre-back, a replacement at left-back for Junior Firpo, a couple of midfielders, Manor Solomon or a winger, a no.10 and a centre-forward.

For that to happen, Leeds would need to spend a lot of money. If The 49ers simply bought all of those players without selling, Leeds would have a bloated squad and could break Profit & Sustainability Rules.

There are plenty of candidates that could be sold. Patrick Bamford and Illan Meslier are in the final years of their contracts while Pascal Struijk and Willy Gnonto can be sold to boost the club’s PSR position.

Max Wober’s future is in doubt at Leeds United this summer

Reports from a couple of months ago stated that Leeds were expecting Max Wober to leave. The Austrian has provided back-up when not injured, undergoing operations on two separate occasions in 2024-25.

Wober will have one eye on the 2026 World Cup and requires regular game time to win his place back in Ralf Rangnick’s Austria squad. Now, Leeds Live have identified a ‘suitable’ price for Wober to be sold.

They claim that if offers of £5m for Wober were made, Leeds would be willing to sell the left-footed star. Having bought Wober for a fee of £10m in January 2023, that would see Leeds make a £5m loss on him.

Which clubs are likely to be interested in signing Max Wober?

Last summer, Wober – along with Brenden Aaronson – returned to Leeds having used Victor Orta’s loan relegation clause. Eight used it in total, with five since leaving permanently while Jack Harrison remains.

Wober went on loan to Bundesliga side Gladbach during the 2023-24 season, and Gladbach wanted to sign Wober permanently. His old team Salzburg also showed interest, but nothing came to fruition.

He has qualities. Versatility, a left foot and Jesse Marsch described Wober as “very strong” after he had joined Leeds. But, he is down the pecking order and the chances are, will fall further – he needs a move.
