Leeds United were linked with signing a number of free agents in October following the injuries to Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev, before eventually agreeing a deal with Josuha Guilavogui.
The seven-time France international has since made his mark at Leeds. His bubbly personality has mixed well with Leeds fans, with Guilavogui winning all seven of the games he has played in under Daniel Farke.
On Saturday afternoon, Guilavogui came off the bench for the final few minutes of Leeds’ 4-0 win over Oxford having invited his family and old friend and former teammates Bafetimbi Gomis to Elland Road.
But Guilavogui was not the first free agent linked with Leeds. Indeed, Cheikhou Kouyate came first and then Francis Coquelin was touted with a move to Leeds, before a 2010 World Cup winner was named.
Christoph Kramer could be about to sign for Bundesliga outfit
Christoph Kramer was also linked with Leeds, in what would have been a reunion with Farke. The duo worked together at Gladbach and in the summer of 2024, Kramer saw his contract at Gladbach expire.
But Leeds chose to bring in former Wolfsburg, Atletico Madrid and St. Etienne star Guilavogui instead of Kramer. Now, Kramer could join 18th-placed Bundesliga side Bochum on a free, ahead of January.
Quoted by Frankfurter Rundschau, Bochum sporting director Ilja Kaenzig says that Kramer would be a “particularly good fit” for current Bochum manager Dieter Hecking in their fight to avoid relegation.
“He was a player for Dieter Hecking. They also had a very good relationship. It would therefore be a particularly good fit. I would be willing to do such things, whether that is Chris Kramer or someone else.”
Bochum move seems to fit Christoph Kramer’s demands
During the days in which Kramer was linked with a move to Leeds, it was touted that Kramer wanted to stay in his home country and find a Bundesliga club to join. Now, Bochum could give him that chance.
Rock-bottom Bochum have a real fight on their hands to achieve survival, after picking up just six points from their opening 15 Bundesliga games. They are right points adrift of Hoffenheim, in 15th place.
However, Bochum’s last game saw them pick up their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over 16th-placed Heidenheim, who are in the Conference League. Kramer could now finally end his club hiatus.
