Leeds United will already be busy behind-the-scenes planning for the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Whites’ recruitment staff will be putting the preparations in place for both scenarios at the end of the season, with it still not decided what division Leeds will be playing in, in August.

In the event of promotion, Leeds have already been linked with a couple of new players. Borussia Monchengladbach’s Luca Netz is said to be on the radar, while Fenerbahce’s Michy Batshuayi has also been mentioned.

However, all the signs are pointing towards one man being the first signing of the window regardless of whether Leeds are promoted to the Premier League or not, and that is Joe Rodon.

LeedsUnited.News spoke to transfer expert Graeme Bailey earlier this week, who says it is actually a matter of when, not if Rodon moves to Elland Road permanently in the summer.

Rodon’s happiness at Leeds makes permanent move near certainty

He said: “It is a big thing that he is happy. He is on good Championship money but Leeds are paying players more than what he is on now. They wouldn’t see it as an issue and it would obviously come down to a deal with Spurs.

“They’d be happy to take, not talking huge sums of money to get him in relative terms to what people are paying now. It’s a good fit for him, from what I am told the player wants to stay and Leeds want to keep him. It is a matter of when it happens, rather than if now.”

Making Rodon Leeds’ first signing of the summer would be a huge boost for the club regardless of whether promotion is achieved or not, considering the impact he has had.

Signing him in the Premier League will enable Leeds to keep a level of continuity in the squad, something which last season’s Championship winners Burnley failed to do with loanees such as Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Nathan Tella.

At the same time, bringing him back to the Championship, would be a real confidence booster that Leeds can again put together a squad capable of a promotion push.

Hopefully everything is already pretty much sorted behind-the-scenes with a deal for the 26-year-old.
