Gustavo Hamer appears to be at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war on deadline day, with Leeds United and PSV both being heavily linked with the Sheffield United man.
Gustavo Hamer looks poised to leave Sheffield United in what is left of the summer transfer window, which slams shut on Monday night at 7pm.
For over a year now, Leeds United have been trying to sign Hamer from Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United, and this summer, his links to Elland Road have really picked up.
But Leeds United have never looked like the front-runner for his signature. It’s often been reported that Hamer would prefer a move to PSV if he were to leave Bramall Lane this summer.
Ahead of deadline day, reports emerged claiming that Hamer was on his way to Leeds United, though Sheffield United hastily appeared to play down those reports.
Then on the eve of deadline day, it was reported that PSV were closing in on signing Hamer.

PSV leading Leeds United in Gustavo Hamer deadline day transfer battle
There’s been a lot of back and forth over Hamer’s future at Sheffield United this summer, and also his preference should he leave the club. But PSV have now shown some uncertainty in the race amid reports that they’ll only sign Hamer if Brentford sign Joey Veerman from PSV on deadline day, with the Bees pursuing the midfielder.
An emerging report from Dutch outlet Soccer News reiterates that Veerman stance, whilst seemingly playing down any chances of Leeds United signing Hamer on deadline day. Soccer News claim that Leeds United’s resources are ‘running out’ after a summer spending total of £100million, with Hamer having ‘become too expensive’ for the 49ers.
They add that ‘Leeds can only loan the midfielder with a possible option to buy’, which Soccer News say Sheffield United are less keen on. The same report also adds that ‘PSV still has a chance of signing Hamer’.

Gustavo Hamer blow followed by more bad news for Leeds United
Leeds United want to sign some new attackers on deadline day, according to Daniel Farke. But so far he’s suffered continuous setbacks in his search, with the news of Hamer following a recent setback on Emi Buendia.
John Percy revealed on deadline day that Leeds United have had a loan offer for Buendia rejected and that the former Norwich City man looks set to stay at Villa Park beyond this summer’s transfer window.
And this all comes after the news that Bilal El Khannouss is set to join Stuttgart, with Leeds having been beaten to the punch there as well.
There remains time for Leeds United to complete some deals on deadline day, but that time is rapidly running out for Farke, whose Leeds side have scored just once in their opening three Premier League games this season.
