Daniel Farke would be delighted to sign midfielder for Leeds and he’s imagining playing at Elland Road

Daniel Farke has made it clear that he would like to sign four players before the August 30 deadline at Leeds United, and one of those is a creative midfielder able to play further back.

With Archie Gray and Glen Kamara sold and only Joe Rothwell added on loan, Leeds are still lacking in numbers in the middle of the park and do require another body to bolster their push for promotion.

Leeds also want a full-back to provide cover for Junior Firpo, Jayden Bogle and Sam Byram with the trio forced to cover two roles. An issue, as Byram is injury prone. Firpo is no stranger to the treatment table.

Replacements are also being eyed after the losses of Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter who have joined West Ham and Brighton, the latter’s move being confirmed on Monday night for £40m.

Farke would love to sign midfielder and he can ‘imagine’ move

Dejan Ljubicic is a name that has been constantly linked with Leeds. While in Germany on a pre-season training camp, Leeds made a £3.3m offer to sign Ljubicic from relegated German side Cologne FC.

But that was rejected, even if the “perfect” Austria international has entered the final 12 months of his contract. Reports this week said Leeds could return with a second bid for the versatile, creative Ljubicic.

Now, Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger said that Farke would ‘only be too happy’ to sign Ljubicic. They also say that Ljubicic can now ‘imagine’ a move to Leeds but The Whites are unwilling to improve their first bid.

Why Ljubicic is the perfect signing for Leeds this summer

With Leeds lacking in numbers after eight permanent exits, five going on loan and more leaving the club at the end of their contracts, it is crucial that the club bring in players that can play in a number of roles.

Last season in the Bundesliga, albeit relegated with Cologne, Ljubicic played on both flanks. He also lined-up as a deep midfielder, as well as a more advanced-option, playing in the no.10 role on occasion.

While the £3.3m bid was rejected, a deal for Ljubicic is unlikely to set Leeds back much further than the first offer given his contrac expires in 2025. Ljubicic would be a brilliant signing if Leeds can pull it off.
