Daniel Farke has reaffirmed his hope of Leeds United bolstering their squad with a free agent as a new target was spotted at Elland Road in the win over Sheffield United.

Farke has been taking a look at several potential targets in the last couple of weeks, with Cheikhou Kouyate the first to be invited to Thorp Arch.

Former Arsenal star Francis Coquelin has also reportedly been at Leeds, though nothing has yet been agreed with anyone.

Leeds got by perfectly fine without a midfield addition on Friday night as they swept aside the Blades thanks to goals from Pascal Struijk and Mateo Joseph in the second half.

Midfield pair Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell were superb throughout the 90 minutes, further supporting the idea anyone who comes in will firmly be a backup option.

Farke’s free agent update as Josuha Guilavogui spotted at Elland Road

Farke has been keen to get the point across that he would like a player capable of filling in both at centre-back and in central midfield.

With Max Wober and Ethan Ampadu out injured, and Joe Rodon one yellow card away from a suspension, it is not only in midfield where Leeds are short, but also at the back. That is why Kouyate fit the bill.

However, it was Josuha Guilavogui who was spotted by a Leeds supporter at Elland Road during the win over Sheffield United, with Leeds Live reporting he is someone being looked at.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Farke was actually the firmest he has been yet in his desire to see someone come in.

He said: “We still need one because the next game is Tuesday. A lot of rest for us by our standards. We have to stay awake with the options out there, with centre-backs too. Thank God, Max is coming back, but he has missed a lot of football.

“Yellow cards too. We need depth. If there is a chance, we will do it. If we find a perfect fit, physical player who covers two positions, adds experience, that would be beneficial.”

Who is Leeds target Josuha Guilavogui?

Guilavogui has been without a club since his summer release from Mainz and his ability to play both central midfield and at the back ticks the boxes Farke is looking for.

At 34, Guilavogui would add plenty of experience to a young Leeds squad and given he only made six starts for Mainz last season, it appears as though he would be happy to come in as backup.

Between 2013 and 2015, Guilavogui was capped seven times by France and also has the likes of Atletico Madrid, Wolfsburg, Saint-Etienne and Bordeaux on his playing CV.

He is likely to be an unknown quantity to many Leeds fans but on paper, looks like the type of signing Farke is looking for.
