Attentions are already towards January at Leeds United, it seems, with Daniel Farke’s side in the race to sign a certain Manchester City player.
Leeds United might well be in desperate need of the January transfer window in the run-up to the New Year.
Although the going is good right now, with Leeds sitting in 12th place of the Premier League table after their goalless draw against Newcastle United last time out, there are growing fears among fans.
Many feel as though Leeds United simply don’t have enough firepower to compete this season, which makes sense with Daniel Farke’s side having scored just once in their opening three league games.
Deadline day was a final chance for Leeds to sign some attackers. But deadline day came and went and Leeds United couldn’t add to their 10 summer signings.

Leeds United join race to sign Nico O’Reilly
Despite the summer transfer window having only just closed, and despite the January window being a few months away still, it’s being reported that Leeds United already have a player that they want to sign in the winter window: Nico O’Reilly at Man City.
Recent reports revealed how Bayer Leverkusen saw two bids rejected for the 20-year-old O’Reilly, and how Pep Guardiola’s side were planning to offer him a new deal, though that hasn’t been announced as of yet.
CaughtOffside now state that Leverkusen remain interested in the Man City academy graduate with a potential January transfer swoop on the cards. Along with the Bundesliga side, the same report states that Lyon, along with Leeds United, Brighton and Nottingham Forest are all ‘interested’ too.
| Nico O’Reilly’s career stats | Games | Goals | Assists |
| Man City U18 | 46 | 21 | 17 |
| Man City U21 | 26 | 6 | 1 |
| Man City | 23 | 5 | 2 |
Daniel Farke hasn’t learned valuable Leeds United lesson
Whether it was the fault of Farke, any directors or recruitment staff behind the scenes, or the owners; Leeds United left it too late to sign a new attacker and now Farke faces a really difficult task in getting this team scoring more goals.
After the close of the window, fans want to see the club taking punts on fee agents, with Josh Brownhill mentioned alongside Leeds United. But it’s already reported that Leeds won’t be signing any free agents, with the club apparently not feeling a need for any additions.
And if that thinking wasn’t confusing enough, Farke is now looking at signing O’Reilly in January, apparently anyway. O’Reilly is a central midfielder but Guardiola utilised him mainly at left-back last season. Previous reports suggested O’Reilly would be worth up to £25million.
Of course, any January link coming out at this time of year needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. But it’s still not what Leeds United fans want to be hearing right now.
