Leeds United are yet to make any signings but continue to be linked with new players every day, and one of the most recent players linked is a key part of Tottenham’s Europa League success.

Leeds have identified four key areas of the squad that require improvement, with The 49ers willing to splash £30m on each position. One is central midfield and Leeds are looking to make a big signing.

Joe Rothwell has returned to parent club Bournemouth and Josuha Guilavogui has left the club on a free transfer. It leaves Leeds with just Ao Tanaka, Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev as first-team midfield players.

Charlie Crew and Darko Gyabi have returned from loans, but Gyabi will be sold if a £3m-£4m offer arrives. It means Leeds could do with one or two new midfield signings and Yves Bissouma is being linked.

What Archie Gray has said about Leeds target Yves Bissouma

Bissouma joined Tottenham three years ago from Brighton after becoming one of the most sought-after midfielders in the Premier League. His time at Tottenham has not been as successful as many predicted.

However, the Mali skipper has played 100 times for Spurs and is now a Europa League winner, starting and finishing the Europa League final win over Man United. Ben Jacobs says Leeds could sign Bissouma.

A player that according to Archie Gray, has been “brilliant” for the Leeds academy product behind the scenes at Spurs. Speaking to Football London this season, Gray praised Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur.

“They’re two brilliant players and they’re so important for the team. Especially in training every day they both help me so much as I am a young player, they’ve seen a lot in football, played at the top of football.

“They’re helping me when I go in at No.6 in training and I’m in the same position as them. They just teach me little things like where to be on the pitch and things like that. It’s really useful. I’m grateful for them.”

What Aaron Lennon said about Yves Bissouma back in 2023

Back in 2023, Bissouma impressed in a 2-0 win for Tottenham over Bournemouth and it impressed Aaron Lennon – who came through at Leeds before starring for Tottenham. He told BBC Radio 5 Live, in 2023:

“[He’s a] completely different player. [He] probably needed a manager to come in and put an arm around him and say, ‘You are that player’. He’s got all kinds of ability, on and off the ball, he’s been fantastic.”

As is the way with transfer windows, players in the final year of their contract often move and Bissouma is in that category. His contract expires in June 2026 and it could be that Leeds look to take advantage.
