Some fascinating market opportunities are already emerging for Leeds ahead of the winter transfer window.
Enzo Maresca has opened the door to Raheem Sterling leaving Chelsea in January as Leeds monitor his situation, while an approach has also been made for Kalvin Phillips as Pep Guardiola continues to leave the England international out.
Now – after a development in Spain – Dominik Livakovic could also be available for Leeds after an unsuccessful bid in July.
Leeds United now have another chance to sign Dominik Livakovic amid “angry” situation at Girona
A story from AS Marca claimed back in July that Leeds made a £6m bid to sign Livakovic as he aimed to leave Fenerbahce.
Which player would you be happy for Leeds to sell in January to fund their transfer business? Let us know in the comments… 🤔💰
The likes of Joel Piroe and Willy Gnonto are struggling to force their way into Farke's plans.
No move to Elland Road materialised for the Croatia international after Fenerbahce rejected the bid, and he ended up joining Girona on loan as Leeds spent £16m to sign Lucas Perri instead.
However, Livakovic is yet to play a single second in La Liga as he sits behind Paulo Gazzaniga, and now wants to leave as he aims to start in goal for Croatia at the World Cup.
Michel – manager of Girona – has said: “Livakovic wants to leave. He doesn’t want to play here, his priority is the World Cup. Gazzaniga had to play while he was ill… because Livakovic doesn’t want to play. I’m very angry about this situation.”
The expectation is that the 30-year-old is sent back to Fenerbahce, but having also fallen out of favour in Turkey, it very much feels like a move to a new club is on the horizon.
Livakovic has not actually played a single second of football for Girona after making two appearances for Fenerbahce before departing, so he remains eligible to play for Leeds this season if a deal materialises in January.
Leeds United must take advantage of Dominik Livakovic dilemma amid Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier contract situation
Leeds will surely back Perri as the No.1 after spending £16m on his signature, but behind the Brazilian, there is much uncertainty.
His two deputies both become free agents in July as Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier approach the final six months of their contracts.
It would be a risk to keep Meslier given how often he let Daniel Farke down last season, although Darlow will be 36 next term and arguably needs to be replaced by someone a bit younger.
The game that finally saw Daniel Farke drop Illan Meslier ❌
Two mistakes that Farke simply could not ignore.
It is also worth mentioning that Leeds are yet to view Perri as a successful signing – according to the Guardian.
As a result, the 49ers might consider Livakovic as a way to not only bolster the goalkeeping department in terms of depth, but also to keep the Brazilian on his toes and motivated to perform well.
