It’s only a few weeks until the January transfer window opens, and Leeds United are expected to be active despite the club’s position regarding Profit & Sustainability Rules.
Plenty of players have been linked with a move to Elland Road over the last few weeks. It comes after Robbie Evans said a new signing would push Leeds over the edge, and risk a possible points deduction.
Which position do Leeds United need to strengthen most in January?
Explain why!
However, LeedsUnited.News understands that isn’t the case. There will be both money and PSR room for Leeds to make some moves in January and Fabrizio Romano claims Leeds have already been active.
Leeds have seen an approach for Como’s Martin Baturina rejected, while Leeds are also battling Forest for Scottish star Josh Mulligan. Now, another potential Leeds signing could have just been made available.

Enzo Maresca opens door for Leeds to sign Chelsea player
Reports last month claimed that Leeds were keen on doing a deal for England international and forgotten Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling. The Whites face competition from Crystal Palace for the Chelsea player.
Sterling has been left out of Chelsea’s Premier League and Champions League squads and on Tuesday, Enzo Maresca opened the door for his exit in January by saying that “anything can happen” with Sterling.
“In terms of Raheem, once again it’s the same thing I said about Axel [Disasi], they are Chelsea players. Now also we are in December, January is coming, so anything can happen with him,” Maresca declared.
Should Leeds follow Nottingham Forest’s path and risk a points deduction? 💸
Would Raheem Sterling be a good signing for Leeds?
Leeds tried to sign Harry Wilson and Facundo Buonanotte towards the end of the summer window, which shows the kind of player the club feel they lack. A playmaker, able to play as a no.10 or in a wider role.
Sterling is more of a winger, than he is a 10 but there is no doubt that he boasts huge creativity and goals in the Premier League. The question is, can Leeds entrust Sterling to return to past Premier League glory?
Paul Merson said at the start of the summer window that Sterling’s move to Leeds would make sense. But nothing has obviously materialised, a late loan deal to Bayern Munich didn’t work out and he stayed put.
There is no doubt that Sterling, even at 50% of the player who starred for City under Pep Guardiola would benefit Leeds. Whether he is able to do so, is another question. He would certainly need time to warm up.
