£9m Championship midfielder on Leeds United radar has now scored more goals than Joel Piroe after Saturday win

While Saturday afternoon proved to be another excellent win for Leeds United and the biggest of the 2024-25 season, it will have been a source of frustration for Joel Piroe.

While the Dutchman remains’ Leeds top scorer this season with seven goals, he failed to add to his tally in a game where he felt he should be scoring. Utterly dominant, Leeds were pungent in the final third.

But it was Dan James, Jayden Bogle, Brenden Aaronson and Manor Solomon that got the goals as Leeds cruised to a 4-0 win over Oxford United. Aaronson now has six goals this season, Leeds’ second-highest.

Piroe failed to add to his goal tally, although he did get an assist for Solomon’s goal and Leeds’ fourth. It has seen a Leeds transfer target move ahead of him in the Championship goal rankings this season.

Midfielder now has more goals than Joel Piroe with Leeds keen

Daniel Farke says Piroe is the best finisher in the Championship, but he is currently joint-ninth in the goalscoring rankings with seven for the season. Josh Windass and Haji Wright also have seven goals.

But a Championship midfielder on the Leeds shortlist took his tally to eight goals in the league on Saturday, with Burnley beating Watford and £9m Josh Brownhill netting the winner in a 2-1 victory.

It came after Brownhill had laid on an assist for former Elland Road winger Jaidon Anthony to give Burnley the lead at Turf Moor. Leeds are said to be keen on Brownhill, and he now boasts eight league goals.

In the summer, Farke wanted to add goals to his midfield and that is why Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka came in. Rothwell is a deep-lying playmaker who scored four goals for Southampton on loan last term.

Tanaka had a hand in 12 goals for Dusseldorf last season. But the duo have just three assists between them while Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev have managed just three goals since their arrivals back in 2023.

Brownhill completely changes that. A midfielder initially eyed by Jesse Marsch and now wanted again by Leeds ahead of January. His contract ends next June and Carlton Palmer says Leeds can get him for £2m.
