Leeds United actually missed out on a very exciting winger on deadline day, and it’s not Cameron Archer. It is in fact a player who joined Burnley instead.
Leeds United were criticised for going the entirety of the January transfer window without making a single first-team signing. But Daniel Farke has well and truly silenced any doubters since.
His side are rampant in their pursuit of Premier League football with back-to-back comeback wins in the Championship, with Leeds United beating Sheffield United 3-1 on Monday night.
Junior Firpo’s goal in the 72nd minute kickstarted another late comeback for the Whites, who came form behind to beat Sunderland in the previous outing. Ao Tanaka scored the winner at Bramall Lane before Joel Piroe netted a third.
The win puts Leeds five points clear at the top of the Championship table, with Sheffield United in 2nd and Burnley in 3rd, now seven points behind the Whites who are unbeaten in 15 games in all competitions.

Burnley star Marcus Edwards was open to Leeds United move in January
Burnley and even Sunderland in 4th could still come into the race for top two, so Leeds certainly need to be wary. The Clarets in particular remain within touching distance and they bolstered well in January, bringing in Sporting CP winger Marcus Edwards on loan.
Scott Parker’s side paid an £800,000 loan fee and have a £10million obligation to buy the 26-year-old former Spurs youngster, in the event that Burnley are promoted to the Premier League this season. But the Clarets’ head of Recruit, George Foster-Vigors, has revealed that Edwards was actually open to joining any of Leeds United, Burnley, or Sunderland in January.
In an interview filmed during the January transfer window, but only revealed recently, Foster-Vigors explained: “The main target that we’re all trying to push for in this window is Marcus Edwards on loan from Sporting. He has got options [at the] bottom of the Premier League but he kind of doesn’t want to go to a dogfighting relegation team.
“He wants to come and try be a part of something positive. He would consider Leeds, Sunderland or us, that are challenging for promotion.”

Marcus Edwards’ stats for Burnley since joining from Sporting CP
Leeds fans were impressed by Burnley’s signing of Edwards on deadline day. And it’s since proved to be a very fruitful signing for the Clarets with Edwards having scored twice in four games in all competitions.
The attacker, who can play across the frontline, has 24 goals and 26 assists in 120 total games for Sporting CP, having asserted himself a sone of the most prolific and creative wingers in Europe.
It’s certainly a coup for Burnley to have brought him in and if they aren’t promoted this season, Leeds United could well take a look at the winger, with additions on the flanks needed if Leeds are to be promoted this season.
