Leeds United are looking to ride a wave of newfound optimism when they take on Liverpool at Elland Road in their next Premier League fixture.

Daniel Farke can end any lingering speculation over his Leeds United future in the most emphatic way imaginable when his side take on Liverpool in the Premier League.

Reports suggested Farke was on the verge of losing his job earlier this week before Leeds’ dramatic win over Chelsea proved that his players are still fighting for their manager.

If Farke can secure an against-the-odds home win against Liverpool, he will join an exclusive club to do so, as Leeds have a poor Premier League record against the defending league champions.

Tony Yeboah scored the winner in one of Leeds’ rare wins against Liverpool, with one of the greatest goals in Premier League history.

Tony Yeboah scored an all-time classic Leeds United goal against Liverpool

For a brief, glorious period in the mid-1990s, Tony Yeboah was a great goalscorer who was also capable of scoring great goals.

This was never more evident than when Liverpool visited Elland Road in August 1995, as Yeboah was in the middle of a record-breaking run of form.

Leeds started the 1995/96 Premier League season in red-hot form, and Yeboah was central to this. His brace against West Ham got Howard Wilkinson’s side off in perfect fashion.

However, he scored undoubtedly the best goal of his career two days later, as Leeds secured a rare Elland Road win over Liverpool.

Yeboah’s goal was a fitting winner for any game of football and is rightly remembered as one of the greatest in Premier League history.

Did Tony Yeboah score Leeds’ greatest-ever Premier League goal?

Leeds United legend Tony Yeboah scored some spectacular goals during his time at Elland Road 🚀💥

The goal itself is etched into the mind of almost every Leeds fan. Tony Dorigo’s chipped ball forward. Rod Wallace’s knockdown. The pregnant pause of 40,000 fans sharply inhaling before the ball slaps against the crossbar, and a deafening roar erupts.

Yeboah’s goal meant Leeds secured their second win over Liverpool in three seasons. 25 years later, the Whites have managed just one more in the Premier League.

Leeds United have a poor recent track record against Liverpool at Elland Road

Leeds may be on a high after the comprehensive win over Chelsea, but the weight of Premier League history is against them as Liverpool prepare to travel to Elland Road.

The two sides have met on 15 occasions in West Yorkshire since 1992, with Leeds ending up on the winning side just three times. Leeds have not won a home Premier League game against Liverpool since Mark Viduka scored all four in a dramatic win in November 2000.

Leeds’ home Premier League record vs Liverpool:

David Weatherall and Gary McAllister got on the scoresheet in Leeds’ only other Premier League win over the Reds, back in 1994.

The Whites took just one point off Liverpool at home in their last visit to the top flight, as Marcelo Bielsa steered his side to a 1-1 draw in April 2021.
