It is less than four weeks until the January transfer window opens, and it appears Leeds United are already making moves to improve Daniel Farke’s attacking options next month.

Daniel Farke made it publicly clear that he felt his Leeds squad would struggle to avoid relegation this season if the club could not bring in more attackers before the summer deadline. But, Leeds failed.

Which position do Leeds United need to strengthen most in January?

Explain why!

Moves for Facundo Buonanotte, Igor Paixao and Harry Wilson came close, but to no avail. Of course, Leeds fans will have been watching enviously after Wilson scored another superb goal on Sunday.

But Leeds have moved on, and despite concerns regarding the club’s PSR position, Fabrizio Romano claims Leeds made an approach for Como’s Martin Baturina. Interest in the Croatian ace is nothing new.

Niko Kranjcar’s verdict on Martin Baturina in 2024

Baturina has been known to European football for some time now. His exploits at Dinamo Zagreb had him earning comparisons with Luka Modric, for his ability between the lines, his vision and technique.

The playmaker has often rejected moves, with Leeds having a bid accepted in 2024 only for Baturina to turn down the opportunity. Eventually, Baturina has moved to Como under manager Cesc Fabregas.

While he might be struggling for game time, Niko Kranjcar’s verdict on him in 2024 shows how highly he is rated in his home country. The former Premier League star says Baturina gets people on their feet.

“I don’t think you need to be a genius to recognize that. Martin has that something that makes people come to the stadiums. He plays serious football, especially in important matches,” Kranjcar told Telegram.

“He’s been the best in the most important matches, which makes a difference. When it comes to development, it depends on a lot of factors, but I’m happy to see Martin is improving year after year.”

Why Niko Kranjcar’s comments will have Leeds fans gutted

The chances of Leeds getting a deal for Baturina over the line are slim. That is because, despite his game time, Romano reports that Como do not want to consider a sale or a loan deal for the Croatian star.

That, and that Baturina is happy at Como in Serie A and even though he would surely be first choice at Leeds, Baturina is happy to play second fiddle at Como for the time being, having joined in the summer.

Leeds then, are back to the drawing board and will have to consider other options in the January window. But Leeds fans are crying out for creativity, a player to get fans off their seats, and Baturina is that.
