There are a handful of Leeds United players being linked with the exit door this month and one of them has suffered a new blow, and it might just mean he’s played his last game for the club.
So far, six Leeds players have been linked with leaving in January. Pascal Struijk is supposedly a target for Tottenham while Junior Firpo’s entourage are working on a summer exit, with Real Betis leading the race.
Daniel Farke predicted a quiet window but with the need for one or two additions, alongside some maybe leaving the club in the next few weeks, it could turn out to be quite a busy month for Leeds off the pitch.
Patrick Bamford suffers new blow, curtains on his Leeds career?
Patrick Bamford came off the bench against Blackburn but was nowhere to be seen when Leeds went to Hull. After the match, Farke confirmed that the striker had picked up a hamstring injury and is now out.
It is unclear how long Bamford will be sidelined for but judging by his injury history, it will take longer than other players. Meanwhile, Bamford is being linked with an exit as Genoa and Wrexham eye moves.
Bamford is yet to start a league game for Leeds this season, with Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph ahead of him. Indeed, Bamford has been afforded one outing from the off, the 3-0 Cup loss to Middlesbrough.
His next and only realistic chance of a start would have been in The FA Cup next weekend against local side Harrogate. But, given he could now miss that through injury, is that his last chance to start for Leeds?
Most Leeds fans would want Patrick Bamford sold this month
Wrexham and Genoa are unlikely to be the only two clubs considering Bamford. But ask Leeds fans and the majority would suggest that actually, they would like to see Bamford sold or even sent on loan.
Carlton Palmer urged Leeds to sell Bamford this month and with the striker one of the club’s top wage earners, The 49ers would surely like to see his pay packet removed from the wage bill in due course.
Injured again, unlikely to start between now and the end of the season if indeed unfit for Harrogate which is his last realistic chance of starting, Bamford may come to the realisation that to play, he needs to go.
