It has recently come to light that Patrick Bamford’s Leeds future is uncertain, with Daniel Farke telling the 31-year-old that he is not part of this season’s Premier League plans.
Patrick Bamford has been with Leeds United since 2018, making him the club’s longest-serving player. In that time he’s made 205 total appearances for the club, scoring 65 goals and winning promotion twice.
Last season though was certainly difficult for Bamford, with him failing to start a single league match and failing to score in the Championship too, and now with just a year left on his contract, this summer could be Bamford’s final at Elland Road.
Throughout the year, Bamford has been linked with a move away from Leeds United with Genoa and Wrexham among those to have been linked.
Bamford’s place in the pecking order has been substantially hit by the signing of former Manchester City academy graduate, Lukas Nmecha.

Patrick Bamford’s departure paves the way for Lukas Nmecha
The potential departure of Patrick Bamford from Leeds United could mark a pivotal moment for Lukas Nmecha, opening a clear path for the German striker to establish himself as a key figure at Elland Road.
While Bamford has been a loyal servant and, at times, a prolific scorer for the Whites, his recent struggles with form and fitness have created an opportunity for fresh impetus in the attacking third.
Speaking to Leeds United News, chief transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey has shed light on the implications of Nmecha’s arrival for Bamford’s future.
Bailey explained: “I think it depends. They will be having these types of conversations now. Especially with Bamford, they will be telling him he will be fourth-choice next season and then it is up to him if he wants to stay.”
This revelation suggests that Nmecha’s signing is a strong indicator of Leeds’ intent to refresh their attacking options, potentially pushing Bamford further down the pecking order.
For Nmecha, with his blend of physical presence, intelligent movement, and an eye for goal, it’s a chance to step into a prominent role at a club with high aspirations. This move could be the catalyst for him to become Leeds’ next reliable goalscorer.

What Lukas Nmecha needs to emulate Patrick Bamford’s first season
To emulate Patrick Bamford’s most prolific season – his 2020-21 Premier League campaign where he netted 17 goals and provided 7 assists in 38 appearances – Lukas Nmecha faces a clear challenge.
Graham Smyth has already backed ‘impressive’ Nmecha, who will have to focus on fitness and consistency going into this upcoming season.
Bamford’s standout campaign saw him play almost every minute. Nmecha’s injury history is a known concern, so remaining fit for a demanding Premier League season will be crucial for him to build momentum and form.
| Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 2018/19 | 25 | 10 | 2 |
| 2019/20 | 47 | 16 | 4 |
| 2020/21 | 38 | 17 | 9 |
| 2021/22 | 10 | 2 | 3 |
| 2022/23 | 31 | 6 | 5 |
| 2023/24 | 36 | 9 | 2 |
| 2024/25 | 18 | 0 | 0 |
Secondly, clinical finishing is vital. Nmecha needs to be efficient in front of goal, converting chances with the same regularity Bamford demonstrated.
Bamford’s success was also built on his intelligent off-the-ball movement and strong link-up play, creating opportunities for himself and his teammates. Nmecha, a link-up type of player who enjoys making runs in behind, possesses similar qualities.
He must fully integrate into Daniel Farke’s dominant system and optimise his positioning. If Nmecha aims to surpass Bamford’s initial impact at Leeds, he needs to surpass these stats from Bamford’s first season (2018-19): 22 Championship games, nine goals, plus one goal in two EFL Cup appearances.
It’s no easy feat, especially in the Premier League, but something Nmecha is going to have to tackle head-on.
