Leeds United fans were able to bask in the glow of an away Premier League win this morning after Dominic Calvert-Lewin sparked a smash-and-grab victory against Wolves.

England international Calvert-Lewin scored his first goal for the club to take the plaudits after the game, looping a brilliant header over Jose Sa to show why Daniel Farke was so keen to bring him to the club.

Leeds scored all three of their goals in a dazzling 15-minute blitz; Anton Stach rifled home a free-kick, and Noah Okafor found the bottom corner with a neat left-footed finish.

Although the final scoreline reads like a comfortable win for the Whites, the stats from the game show that Wolves made most of the running in the second half, as they desperately searched for a way back into the game.

Wolves’ dominance made the role of Leeds captain, Ethan Ampadu, even more important, as he marshalled Leeds to a win with a quietly inspirational performance.

Ethan Ampadu shines in Leeds United win

Although Leeds’ attacking trio rightly took a big chunk of the credit after the Whites’ win over Wolves, Ampadu was metronomic in the Leeds midfield, setting the tempo for the rest of the team.

Ampadu’s performance was perfectly summed up in a short passage of play in the very first minute of the game, as he won the ball back from Fer Lopez as Wolves took up a potentially dangerous position on the right before turning out of pressure well to put Leeds back on the front foot.

The stats from FotMob highlight just how influential Ampadu was in the Leeds midfield. Ampadu took 74 touches, the third most for Leeds, as he set the tone in the middle of the park.

Leeds’ captain barely put a foot wrong in possession, making 53 accurate passes with a success rate of 95% and five passes into the final third.

Then, as Wolves hunted for a route back into the game in the second half, Ampadu’s influence in the defensive third increased. His total of 15 defensive contributions was the joint-most on the field, alongside Anton Stach, including four tackles, six recoveries, and five clearances.

Ampadu also won five ground duels and two aerial duels to cap off a brilliant display. Having missed the games against Arsenal and Newcastle through injury, the Leeds captain proved his worth once again in a brilliant away win.

Leeds United achieve 25-year first in comeback win

Several records tumbled for Leeds yesterday, as they matched a record set by Don Revie by winning their fourth consecutive league game against Wolves.

Calvert-Lewin, Stach, and Okafor’s goals meant three Leeds players scored their first goal for the club in the same game for the first time in history. Okafor also made more dribbles than any other Premier League player in the first half of a game for the first time since 2019.

To cap it off, according to Opta, Leeds led by two goals at half-time after going one goal behind for only the third time in their Premier League history.

The previous two occasions came against Derby in 1999, with Leeds going on to claim a 4-1 win, and against Wimbledon in 2000, as two goals from Eirik Bakke inspired Leeds to a win by the same scoreline.
