The 49ers have to be alarmed as Daniel Farke repeats worrying trend in latest Leeds United presser

Daniel Farke is failing to win over Leeds fans on the pitch, but he is also losing their faith with his antics off the field.

Supporters have already hit out at the German after he said fans felt survival was secured after the 2-1 win over West Ham, only to now be “panicking” about relegation. The fanbase felt words were being put in their mouth.

Farke also made odd comments about having more possession than Brighton and Nottingham Forest despite suffering heavy defeats in both of those away days.

It comes across as Daniel Farke desperately clutching at straws to save face – and The 49ers have to be concerned after hearing him do it yet again on Thursday.

Daniel Farke continues to miss the point with latest boast about meaningless statistics

In his press conference ahead of Saturday’s trip to Manchester City, the 49-year-old continued to highlight what feels like every detail other than the poor results of late, with Leeds suffering six defeats in the last seven games.

Firstly, Farke claimed that Leeds are second in the Premier League when it comes to “physical output” so far this season, saying: “When I judge our games, we are in the top two, with City, for physical output. Good fitness level and mentality.”

The man born in Steinhausen then said: “If you judge objective data, we were in six games (the) better side, but without points.”

As a coach, Farke clearly prides himself on these details, but they are beside the point at the moment.

Quite rightly, the only statistic Leeds fans care about is the points column in the Premier League table.

That should be the only number on Farke’s mind as well – regardless of how proud he is about “physical output” and possession figures, he has to stop mentioning them while Leeds sit in the relegation zone.

Daniel Farke is gaslighting his own players at Leeds United as well as fans

Leeds fans are smart enough to see past these pointless boasts, but if the Leeds players are hearing comments like this on a daily basis, they risk losing a grip on reality.

Farke needs to be more brutal and tell his squad all is not actually well.

The more they hear how great they are when it comes to possession and “physical output” the less focus there’ll be on genuine problems, such as conceding too many goals from cutbacks.

If The 49ers are keeping faith with Farke, they would be wise to have a quick word in his ear about these now-weekly boasts about underlying, insignificant numbers.
