Leeds United should exact revenge on Marseille by signing player compared to Lionel Messi

Leeds United will now hold a grudge over Marseille for Igor Paixao’s signing as Roberto De Zerbi’s side got the last laugh in that saga.

After it seemed nailed on that the Feyenoord winger would make the move to Leeds this summer, the 49ers might have been left in disbelief at the winger picking Marseille.

Paixao gave agreement to join Marseille, and Whites fans were left devastated at his decision.

Recently, the Brazilian has given his reason as to why he chose the French side, with Paixao saying Marseille is a club with values, which is bizarre as to why he rejected the Whites.

Nevertheless, despite losing out on the Brazilian, Leeds can exact revenge on De Zerbi’s side, as a new player has entered the frame.

Leeds United should sign Marseille target Edon Zhegrova

With Paixao now out of the picture, the 49ers will need to assess other options that can play on the wing.

Marseille themselves might have just handed Leeds one in the form of Lille winger Edon Zhegrova, who is in talks with the Les Olympiens, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Lille winger has impressed in Ligue 1 and might question whether he wants to compete with Paixao.

Meanwhile at Elland Road, a starting spot could be waiting for the Kosovo international, who looks to be exactly what Daniel Farke is after.

Leeds have had meetings with ‘several wingers’ this summer, and there is plenty of reason why Zhegrova should be next on the list.

Edon Zhegrova has been compared to Lionel Messi as profile fits Leeds United perfectly

Like Paixao, Zhegrova seems to be an unknown talent across Europe, but he’s certainly been recognised for his excellent ability.

The Daily Mail has previously analysed the winger when Arsenal were interested in him, with it being claimed his trickery and dribbling ability have seen him branded as the ‘Lionel Messi of the Balkans’, and it’s clear to see why.

If this isn’t enough for Leeds, his profile fits the 49ers’ transfer strategy to a tee, as he is 26, sharing the same age as five of the Whites’ seven new additions this summer.

Adding to this, Gabriel Gudmundsson will know him well from their time at Lille, so the Swede could play an agent role in securing his signature, and Leeds fans are already impressed by Gudmundsson, so another player from the Ligue 1 club can’t hurt.

It’s not only a chance to get their own back on Marseille, but Leeds would also be getting a winger who could prove to be a nightmare for Premier League defenders, as Farke could have his own version of Messi.
