Many Leeds fans remain unsure on Brenden Aaronson, over three years into his stay at Elland Road.
A £25m arrival from Red Bull Salzburg in May 2022, the United States international has scored only 11 goals in 101 appearances for Leeds – also providing just six assists – a return which does not befit his price tag whatsoever.
Leeds fans even hit out at Daniel Farke after seeing the American keep his place in the starting XI for the recent 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa.
Now – however – Leeds could soon have a way to unlock Brenden Aaronson if they hire Zsolt Low.
Why Zsolt Low could bring the best out of Brenden Aaronson at Leeds United
TEAMtalk believe Leeds have been offered the chance to hire Low as a replacement for Farke, with Red Bull suggesting the Hungarian as an option to the 49ers.
The pressure is mounting on Daniel Farke… should Leeds United sack him?⌛
It remains to be seen if Leeds take advantage of this opportunity, but if they do, it could finally spark Aaronson into life.
Low is schooled in the Red Bull system, having started his coaching career at Red Bull Salzburg’s sister club FC Liefering as an assistant to Peter Zeidler, before helping Adi Hutter at Red Bull Salzburg themselves.
The 46-year-old also assisted Ralph Hasenhuttl and Ralf Rangnick at RB Leipzig, gaining further knowledge of the Red Bull system, before managing the German side himself for eight games at the end of last season in an interim role.
Aaronson should therefore be suited to Low tactically.
Leeds United fans told they’re being unfair on Brenden Aaronson 🗣️
The Leeds No.11 played his best football in a Red Bull system, scoring 13 goals and providing 15 assists in 66 appearances for RB Salzburg before his move to Yorkshire.
If Low can help Aaronson return to the level which tempted Leeds to spend £25m on his signature, it could go a long way to achieving Premier League survival.
Whoever manages Leeds United has to stop playing Brenden Aaronson on the right
Brendan Rodgers has been linked to Leeds along with Low, while the 49ers are also said to like Ange Postecoglou after his departure from Nottingham Forest.
Whoever replaces Farke – who the Guardian say defeats to Chelsea and Liverpool this week could signal the end for – they simply have to stop using Aaronson on the right flank.
| Position | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Attacking Midfield | 169 | 21 | 22 |
| Left Midfield | 32 | 7 | 5 |
| Right Wing | 16 | 1 | 0 |
| Central Midfield | 16 | 1 | 1 |
| Right Midfield | 9 | 1 | 3 |
| Centre-Forward | 5 | 0 | 1 |
| Left Wing | 1 | 1 | 0 |
There is no evidence whatsoever throughout the 25-year-old’s career that he has been effective in that area, so it baffles us to see Farke persist with the tactic.
Therefore, Low, Rodgers, Postecoglou or even Farke if he manages to keep his job have to move Aaronson centrally, or even on the left – where he has clearly had far more impact than he ever has on the right.
