The Whites made a late push to sign Harry Wilson from Fulham but that proved frustrating, leaving a damp mood over the summer transfer window as a whole.
Now, fans are wondering if any free agents will arrive at Elland Road, though the chances of Leeds United signing any free agents has already been played down.
Nonetheless, speculative links continue to emerge with Christian Eriksen mooted as a potential target for Leeds, and now along with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who is a free agent.
Leeds United linked with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain again
Leeds United were linked with a move for Oxlade-Chamberlain earlier in the year. The former Liverpool and Arsenal man was with Besiktas but this summer, Besiktas released Oxlade-Chamberlain and he remains a free agent following the close of the summer transfer window.
Now though, TBR Football report that Leeds are still monitoring Oxlade-Chamberlain’s situation, whilst the likes of Brentford, Burnley, and Everton are also keeping tabs on the 32-year-old attacker.
For Leeds fans, after the frustrations of deadline day and the tough-looking road ahead to January, links to players like Oxlade-Chamberlain who are perhaps past their best, injury-prone and also on big money, certainly won’t sit well.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Besiktas salary is crazy
There’s no doubting that Oxlade-Chamberlain has pedigree. There’s been times when he’s arguably been one of England’s best attacking players, but those days might be long gone and there seems to be very little point in Leeds bringing him in now, simply to boost squad numbers.
This summer, Leeds United spent £100million on new players. There was also a big bump in player wages following promotion, so adding Oxlade-Chamberlain to the mix doesn’t make sense from a financial point of view either, as he’s not someone with any real sell-on value.
At Besiktas, Oxlade-Chamberlain was earning £65,000-a-week, or a yearly salary of nearly £3.4million according to Salary Sport.
Leeds United should steer well clear of Oxlade-Chamberlain and simply focus on the players they’ve already got, or look at who they could maybe bring up from the youth academy if they’re really desperate for more depth.
