Leeds United’s Gabriel Gudmundsson was in action on Friday night, going up against another summer signing in Jaka Bijol.

Gabriel Gudmundsson‘s Sweden played Jaka Bijol’s Slovenia in a World Cup qualifier on Friday night, drawing the game 2-2.

Swansea City’s Zan Vipotnik scored a last minute equaliser for Slovenia who sit in 3rd place of Group B, compared to Gudmundsson’s Sweden who sit in 2nd place.

Since arriving at Elland Road this summer, the 26-year-old Gudmundsson has played three times in the Premier League, putting in steady performances along the way.

Leeds United signed Gudmundsson from Lille paying around £10million for the left-back, who now has 16 caps for his national side.

Swedish media say Gabriel Gudmundsson did a good job vs Slovenia

After the 2-2 draw against Slovenia, the Swedish media gave Gudmundsson a solid review. They say that the Leeds United man did a ‘good defensive job’ but suggest that he could’ve done more to keep Slovenia from scoring a late goal.

Fotboll Skanalen write of Gudmundsson: “Played with poise and did a good defensive job. Good in pressing games and played calmly and safely with the ball. Often joined in the attack. Could have done better at 2-2.”

So far for Leeds United, Gudmundsson has looked like a solid signing. The above review sums up perhaps what a lot of Leeds fans feel about Gudmundsson who is a typically reliable full-back, who likes to get forward too.

Gabriel Gudmundsson’s stats vs Slovenia sum up the type of player he is

To get a real picture of how good Gudmundsson is at doing both the attacking and defending aspect of playing as a full-back, we only need to look at his stats for the game against Slovenia.

He saw a lot of the ball and kept it tidy in terms of passing. But he also didn’t shy away from his defensive duties with some of the best defensive stats of any player on the pitch.

For Leeds United and manager Daniel Farke, Gudmundsson looks like a very steady signing. But after Leeds United’s disastrous deadline day, the problems lie further up the pitch with the Whites looking like they’re lacking real firepower right now.

Up next is a trip to Fulham on September 13th. A win and a good performance at Craven Cottage would settle a lot of the doubts after deadline day.
