Leeds United’s lack of plan B up top reared itself from time to time last season as Daniel Farke’s side often struggled to get past a low block, and now The Whites are about to miss a trick.

The Whites boast Patrick Bamford, Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph up front as options to start as a no.9 but with Bamford and Piroe dropping and out of form, and Joseph still a rookie, Leeds often lacked a plan B.

Something a bit different in the final third that could get on the end of a cross or score in a different way when needed. In January, Leeds were linked with a move for target man Kieffer Moore at Bournemouth.

“Unplayable” Moore left Bournemouth on loan to join Ipswich and instantly had an impact at Portman Road, scoring some crucial goals as Kieran McKenna guided Ipswich into second, ahead of Leeds.

Championship rivals set to sign Kieffer Moore from Bournemouth

The 30-year-old scored seven goals in 18 Championship games for Ipswich, despite only completing 90 minutes twice. The forward has huge second-tier experience, having a hand in 68 goals in 173 games.

But now, Moore is set for a move to Hull after Ipswich chose not to sign the Wales star. A player that has scored 12 goals for Wales, and half of Moore’s goals have been assisted by Leeds attacker Dan James.

Hull Live say Hull and Bournemouth have agreed a fee and a three-year contract is about to be signed by Moore. An ambitious move by The Tigers but surely a player Leeds should have considered this summer.

Brian Deane thought Leeds missed a trick in January over Moore

If we missed a trick in January, Leeds are certainly doing so now. Moore showed how crucial it is to offer a different way of scoring goals while at Ipswich, but also the necessity for height in a Championship team.

Towards the end of last season, Leeds icon Deane said he wished The 49ers had signed Moore. Leeds missed a trick in January as Ipswich got over the line with Moore’s help, and they are about to do it again.

Ipswich would have been four points worse off without Moore’s seven goals last season and over the course of a full season, that makes a difference. It could be the gap between promotion and the play-offs.
