Leeds United gave in to Mateo Joseph’s desire to leave Elland Road this summer. They sanctioned a dry loan deal for the striker, with Joseph joining La Liga side Mallorca for the 2025-26 season.
Joseph pushed for an exit. Daniel Farke said that Joseph had asked for a move, and that the Spain U21 star had refused to travel to Germany for Leeds’ training camp. He was strongly linked with Real Betis.
LeedsUnited.News understands Leeds had agreed to sell Joseph for £10m. But Betis failed to meet that asking price, and it saw Mallorca steal in and land the Spaniard on loan without a permanent option.
Leeds only wanted to sell on their terms, or let him go on loan without an option. Adam Underwood is hoping that Joseph shines in Mallorca, which in turn will bump his value up ahead of the 2026 window.

Leeds receive surprise Mateo Joseph boost on Tuesday afternoon
Joseph has played three games, starting against Celta Vigo and Real Madrid. He remains goalless which will come as little surprise, although two of the first three games have been against the El Clasico rivals.

The Leeds man is fighting for a starting role despite his lack of goals. Leeds certainly need him to start games and score goals if their plan is to work, and Joseph can ramp up his value going into 2026.
Well, Joseph’s game time is about to increase further and in turn, boost Leeds’ plan. That is because Robin van Persie has signed Jesse Marsch’s Canada striker Cyle Larin on loan from Mallorca on Tuesday.
Mallorca’s start doesn’t get any easier for Mateo Joseph
Having already played against Real Madrid and Barcelona, Mallorca’s start to the season does not get any easier. After the international break, Mallorca face Atletico Madrid and Bilbao in two of their next four.
But Joseph is now expected to start most games for Mallorca, especially with the La Liga side allowing Larin to move. The stage is set for Joseph to shine, and Leeds’ plan to boost his price tag is in motion.
It is all down to Joseph. Whether the striker can get the goals for Mallorca over the next nine months. What will be a worry for Leeds, is that Mallorca were the third-lowest scorers in La Liga last term, with 35.
Interestingly, Leeds were linked with a move for Feyenoord’s new signing Larin back in the summer of 2020, during Marcelo Bielsa’s stint as manager. However, Larin’s move to Leeds never materialised.
