If the latest reports are true, Daniel Farke could strike his best Leeds United deal for under £10m

Leeds United are in the market for new additions ahead of the January transfer window and Daniel Farke has been offered the chance to sign one of La Liga’s most effective forwards.

If Leeds are going to enter the January window, it is likely to be for a player similar to Harry Wilson. Leeds made a late move for the Wales star in the summer, but Fulham pulled the plug on Wilson’s departure.

Wilson has now shared how close Leeds came to a deal, claiming it was happening before it wasn’t. The form of the Welsh wizard remains a painful sight for Leeds fans, who lack a bit of creativity in attack.

Not that Leeds’ recent results would know it. But Leeds do need a player who can create magic out of nothing, and if it isn’t going to be Wilson, with Fulham unlikely to sell, then it could be Ruben Vargas.

Leeds United now offered bargain deal for Victor Orta signing

It was only in January 2025 that Sevilla, under Victor Orta as sporting director, engineered a £2m deal to lure Switzerland international Vargas from Augsburg to the Spanish side. It was seen as a bargain deal.

Since then, Vargas has sparkled. This season, he has had a hand in seven goals in just 12 La Liga outings. Similar form to Wilson but in a Sevilla shirt. The similarities with Wilson aren’t limited to form, either.

Similar age, caps with their countries, versatility in attack and much more. Now, Farke and Leeds have been given the chance to sign Vargas, with the Swiss star offered to Leeds for a bargain fee of £8.7m.

£9m is such a bargain

Ruben Vargas would be Leeds’ best signing for bargain fee

Farke has made some wonderful signings. Jayden Bogle for £5m, Ao Tanaka for £3.5m, Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu for £10m apiece. Even signings made this summer, Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free.

Gabi Gudmundsson, Sean Longstaff, Noah Okafor, Jaka Bijol and others bought in the recent window have been solid additions. But Vargas, for less than £9m, would top them all. A player of huge talent.

One of La Liga’s most productive attackers in terms of output and numbers. A player with more than 50 caps with Switzerland and still in his 20s, Vargas is the kind of player that can be a game changer.
