If Leeds sign ‘phenomenal’ winger promotion is almost guaranteed but he’d cost £25m

Crysencio Summerville’s departure has not only highlighted a lack of options out wide at Leeds United right now, but it has also left Leeds with the task of replacing his goals and assists.

The 22-year-old completed a £25m move to West Ham, in a deal that could exceed £30m if Summerville meets certain performance related add-ons and wins his first cap for The Netherlands in due course.

His move comes after winning The Championship’s Player of the Season award, following a season where he scored 21 goals and laid on 10 more in assists. Summerville was a game changer for Leeds last season.

Without him, Leeds lack options out wide with Ian Poveda and Jaidon Anthony leaving. But Daniel Farke’s men are now without that bit of magic on the left, a player that can take games by the scruff of their neck.

Leeds need a big signing and his name is Jack Clarke

Immediately after Summerville’s exit, Leeds fans responded in their drones on social media and urged The 49ers to use the cash received for Summerville to fund a move for Sunderland left winger Jack Clarke.

A move of course that would see the Thorp Arch academy product return to Elland Road, five years after he was sold to Tottenham. “Phenomenal” Clarke has starred for Sunderland, scoring 14 goals last season.

With Summerville in the Premier League, it is fair to say Clarke is the best left winger in the Championship. If signed, Leeds replace the impact of Summerville and seriously strength a second push for promotion.

Clarke would not be a cheap signing with Sunderland stubborn

Quality does not come cheap, especially proven Championship quality with Regis Le Bris’ side selling to a rival in this hypothesis. Leeds raked in a fee of £25m for Summerville and now, Clarke’s price tag is public.

Sunderland on SI claim that interested clubs will have to pay the same £25m fee for Clarke. They also say that The Black Cats do not want to lose the former Leeds and Tottenham star, and will remain stubborn.

So, Clarke is the best replacement possible for Summerville at this level and instantly solidifies a push to go back up. But, signing Clarke would see Leeds lose all the money earned from the sale of Summerville.
